And the emotive value of 'freebies' is worth more than their replacement costs.

    "Hmmm, nice fridge freezer!"

"Yeah, we love it and were planning to take it with us, but we cooouuld leave it for you if you want, I guess?"

"Blimey! We'll offer the full asking £900k!…"

And they lived happily with their pre-loved Beko for many years.

Forget the dishwasher: there's no way for you to prove that it didn't work at the point you asked the seller the question, still less that they answered dishonestly. Get it fixed or buy a new one.

As for the FF: yes, that should have been left as per the contract. They should compensate you for not having left it. But realistically, in your shoes, I would just take the goodwill payment and move on with my life. You could spend months chasing the money and never get it, not to mention the emotional investment and hassle you would incur. There's always unexpected problems when buying a house. If this was the worst one, that's not too bad in the general scheme of things.

Just buy some new appliances and get on with enjoying your new home. It really isn't worth the hassle, time and expense of trying to claim from the previous owner for the sake of a second hand fridge and a dishwasher. They are used appliances and worth next to nothing.

We had similar when we moved in March. Although they didn't take the fridge freezer and wine cooler neither was working and we have had to replace them despite being told they were working.

Yes its an annoyance but actually I'm glad we replaced them given the state of some of the other appliances that did still work!!
