Hi I have a sim only 2 year contract that ends at the end of this year. Can they auto renew this without telling me? I might forget to cancel it but is it up to me to cancel or them to remind me?

If you have set up auto renew then yes it will just renew - they should remind you especially as very often the price increases unless you opt into a new contract, but there's nothing to say you might miss a message or it might end up in your spam folder.

Your original contract should explain what happens at end of contract, mine for example stays on the same plan but without the discount I got for taking the contract, so in effect will increase by around £9 a month. It also tells me when contract can be extended, and also when it needs to be cancelled if I wish to port out. I can also see most of that when logging into my account.

It is always best to keep a diary note of contract ending dates so that 30 days before- or whatever the terms are, you can give notice if you wish.

    Read your contract first.

I don't know of any companies that cancel at the end of your fixed term as that would mean the number is lost.

Most likely you will move on to a 30/31 day rolling contract at the full price for that call and data package following an email or SMS notification.

Simply put a reminder into your phone calendar right now and you won't forget to take action when the time comes.

on 22 Sept I got a text from Vodafone saying that my 2 year sim only deal ends on 6 Nov.
if I do nothing it moves to monthly rolling (at a £5 increase in price)

None of that was a surprise to me. At some point soon I’ll find another decent 2 year sim only package. I don’t worry about running a few weeks into the new contract.

I agree, you will be moved onto a rolling 30 day contract. Might I suggest looking at the lebara sim only packages using the MSE link? £2.20 per month for 9 months including a good amount of data and free roaming which is pretty good, and only a 30 day rolling contract ….

I want to go to a monthly no contract not another 2 year deal. I never got a contract. Is that normal? At the least you should have it emailed to you. GiffGaff have one for £10 which would sute me but 3 mobile seems to be expensive at £18

Libra offers £2.50. That does seem a bit cheep. O2 have a £9

Desmond, it is a long time since I/we had long contracts. My OH is on GiffGaff (O2 network) and I am with 1p Mobile (EE network). Both are non contract 30 day rolling. From what I recall, GG are a Which? recommended provider. 1p has better EU roaming (more data and covers Channel Is and Is of Man). Neither are the cheapest, although both have given good service, inc EU roaming. Cheapest deal of the two is 1p Mobile at £5 for 5GB, £10 gets you 50GB.

    https://www.1pmobile.com/

Easy enough to switch, see https://www.ofcom.org.uk/phones-and-broadband/switching-provider/switching

Note that switching your number over to the new provider takes place on the next working day, suggest not giving it to them on a Friday or over the weekend. Usually the change over starts before 8am on the next day after submitting the PAC details to your new provider.

I have a 3Mobile 2yr contract ending soon. I looked into monthly sim only. I couldent find anything cheep but found a uswitch website.

    https://www.uswitch.com/mobiles/compare/sim_only_deals/

found a 60G £10 per month no contract. I never hear of uswitch for sim only deals. But Lebara are very cheep. On the uswitch website I see eSIM compatable is this optional or can I still use my sim card?

It's the end of a minimum term not a fixed term contract - so the contract just becomes a monthly rolling one. Check what is available from your current provider and the market as a whole.

Some upgrade options for Vodafone. Also, competitive options on Vodafone value sub-brand Talkmobile 50GB for £6.95 whilst on EE it's usually via 1p mobile or Spusu.
