Online via another source would be the easiest by far, nearly everything is available somewhere else, on another platform etc. Apart from local news clips there is not much that is not available online, even old not commercially listed TV shows are pretty much all online in one place or another.

One would need to use a capture card, but they can be picked up off of Amazon for less than £20 (I actually have a £4.50 one from Temu somewhere that works at 1080p and ignores HDCP). The slight issue is HDCP, it is against the rules to post on here how to bypass that, but Google is your friend and the required hardware to do so cost less than £10.

I would also point out relying on out of date, soon to be deactivated semi-proprietary hardware running a modified OS to preserve something is destined to fail, if not now, then next year, or the year after etc.

  • Appreciate the reply re how to do it. Not sure I would describe it as "easy" mid you.

Google is only it's shareholders friend.😉

I used to work for a call center that (amongst many other contracts) answered emails for ITV. Any request for footage from local news clips we sent on to ITV with full details, they always semed to sort them out a hard copy. So there's always a way.

I think like most things, it is easy when you have done it once or twice. I have a few of the cheap capture cards, but also a high end 4k/120 card, but that obeys HDCP. A cheap Temu/AliExpress 1080p capture card will probably do the job and just requires playing the content through the dongle, which then writes the video to a micro SD card or flash drive, no special skills or tech required. Where HDCP is active that is another cheap bit of kit from Temu, AliExpress or Amazon and again only needs to be plugged in to work.

Interesting, I wonder how far their archives go back?
