Notice for Switching from TalkTalk
Hi, apologies for the lenght of my thread. A query about charges for switching with a contract expiring on 14.12.26.
When I asked customer service they replied I could do it "on 6.12.26" (a week before the expiry date), then "in November", than "now". I asked many times whether I would have to pay any fee. He said no.
In my 24 months contract it says: "The minimum term of your contract is 24 months. Early termination charges apply if you leave before the end of the minimum termination day. The early termination charge is £10.20 for each remaining month of your minimum termination day.
If you want to end a service or your agreement with us outside of your minimum term, you will have to contact us in writing or via online chat to give 30 days’notice."
BUT it ALSO SAYS: "However, if you're transferring to another Telephone or Broadband Provider, we'll accept that you've given us sufficient notice when we receive notice from them."
Does this mean TalkTalk will accept me switching with or without charges? Without would be GREAT!
I wanted to leave TalkTalk months ago but I was told I would have to pay the full monthly fee (so £30 not £10.20 for each remaining month). Was I too naive to believe them? Thanks.

If switching to another provider (rather than just quitting completely) if inside the minimum term you pay ETC from the date the date the switch takes place till your minimum term expiry date which according to you is £10.20 for each full month before the term expires, so if that were today , that’s approximately 2 full months , so £20.40 ETC.
…..if you wanted to avoid ETC as much as you could , around 2 weeks before the minimum term expires (so around 1st Dec) you advise the new company to take over your supply and they tell TT your intention to leave , if the date the change takes place is 14th Dec , no ETC , but TBH a few days either side will only be a few pennies ( £10.20 a month is around 34p per day ) unless they charge a full month even if it’s only a few days , you need to check with them if that’s important to you.
If you leave after the minimum term has expired and you have not renewed, then no early termination fees apply provided you use the One Touch Switching service to join the new provider.
if you don’t use OTS or just quit completely it’s 30 days notice .
This system works even if you join a different network, so joining Virgin for example provided the new provider uses OTS .

In telecoms there is no "switching window" like you see in energy, so if you up sticks and push off somewhere else, early termination fees apply pro-rata to the termination date.
Obviously the smaller the gap between said date and your leaving, the smaller this fee will be. Below 30 days it's no more than a month usually at the most.
Note that if you are generated a new bill on the other side you will get the pro-rata refund. So you get a bill on the first for £31 (for argument's sake) and then leave on the 6th, you'd get a pro-rata refund of £25.

Thank you so much. Your detailed reply is very helpful.
I got the end date of my TalkTalk contract wrong, it actually ends on 6 December. If I switch now I will have to pay roughly £20.40 ETC.
I'm tempted to switch now, as I'm considering a Vodafone contract with an Equivalent monthly cost of £11.55. (I wrote another thread about it) and the offer ends in a week time.

If I understand you correctly, my reply to Neil_Jones makes sense. Thanks.

The ISP you switch to frequently will offer to add credit to cover ETCs from the losing supplier but you'll have to check the T&Cs of the new supplier.
