I think itt is perfectly reasonable to leave the bed to be worked around but would expect it to be stripped, in a one bed appartment there might not be anywhere else for it to go. Any small items of furniture should be removed if possible with wardrobes and chests emptied.

I'm sure that if you are having two bedrooms fitted they might rather move items into one whilst working on the other to make it easier for themselves

Not sure how this will as in the past I have had carpets installed and two fitters were doing 2 bedrooms and 1 worked in each room on their own.

I have known a few mates that have been in same situation and had to clear two or more rooms so the fitters could lay the carpets.

You may get lucky and they will move the contents around so they can lay the carpets.

…or you may not and they refuse the job and walk away.

Get this stuff agreed up front before the fitting day.

If they walk then they may not get paid as they could be self employed .

If they are on the books then that's a different scenario.

Agree about getting things agreed up front.

When I was looking for new bedroom carpets one local shop wouldn't do the moving - another did. I cleared out the rooms as much as possible end emptied drawers and wardrobes so the furniture was lighter and easier to move. You need to ask in your local shops.

we used a local shop for our bedroom carpet last year, its a fairly big room and we were warned to have it empty beforehand. We rarely ever get more than one fitter even for multiple rooms, so would not expect them to move heavy furniture.

As above question the shop beforehand and perhaps pay a local odd job man or similar if the carpet fitter wants an empty room. Ours have just turned up, laid the carpet and went on to their next job, didn’t even have time to drink a cup of tea we offered him. Our local shop has independent fitters though and although they arrange it all, and fitter collects and brings the carpet, we pay the fitter independently.

I went into a carpet shop looking for an offcut of vinyl for the bathroom, ended up arranging for them to measure for carpeting the rest of the house. They were happy to move bedroom furniture; one wardrobe we could not move out of the bedroom. It was brought in by the removals men, but we cannot work out how because there's just no route out back onto the landing without getting jammed in the doorway.

We've always found carpet fitters expect the bed to remain, as they know it's difficult to remove. But all other furniture should be removed. Fitters are used to fitting a carpet with a bed in situ.

I happen to have a carpet fitter working in my house at the moment. In my experience fitters will work around one piece of furniture but any more than that, they expect to have been moved beforehand. Moving furniture for this purpose is tricky unless you happen to have a lot of spare space in your house, and it is certainly something I would want to either do myself or supervise very closely.
