Did you ask them to move? What did they say? Also surely the point of a PHV is you can drive it on the ICE if the battery isn't charged?

Why didn't you park in your driveway?

How long was the van parked on your driveway?

What did the neighbour say say when you asked them to move their vehicle?

I'm unclear why this would cause a loss of earnings? You have a duty to mitigate your losses and, presuming you didn't literally have a completely bone dry petrol tank and 0% battery, this could be achieved by just filling up with petrol instead of charging. I presume you didn't actually lose any earnings because of this and this is more a point of principle of "well I could have"?

If you did ned to fill up your car with petrol instead of electric as you were running low, I guess you could technically argue for reimbursement of the cost of refilling the car (minus the cost it would have been to charge your car instead), though I expect this will be a minor amount and probably not worth anyone's time.

Are you using an EV tariff? The only reason I ask is because cheap off-peak electricity is usually supplied up until 6-7am, so unless he was parked there overnight, I presume you would have been charging at the peak rate (or you have a non-EV tariff), which at 25-30p/kWh is unlikely to be that much cheaper than petrol anyway (if at all).

Another way of mitigating your losses… did you ask them to move?

    Know what you don't

I'm also wondering how your conversation with your neighbour went.

When you say PHV I'm assuming you mean private hire vehicle? Most of the other posters seem to think you've meant Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle, which is why they're talking about buying petrol instead.

Regarding "compensation" I'm assuming you mitigated your losses by going out to a public charge point an hour before you would normally start work and charging there? Your only loss then is the difference between buying your electricity publicly and your home charging cost?

I'm guessing this could possibly be as much as £40-50. Am I in the right ballpark?

Does PHV mean "plug in hybrid vehicle" or "private hire vehicle"?

Cant be sure, but it looks like an Outlander so that would be a max 23kWh battery. Even with free charging at home vs motorway ultra fast charging the difference would be £20 at most.

The only thing that's clear to me is your neighbour's unredacted business name and phone number.

If he really has parked it is an extraordinary position, completely straddling the pavement.

  • Yes I'm a private hire driver.

He parked there all night even though his driveway was clear.

  • Phv stands for private hire vehicle not phev and it is only 9p per kwh at home
