Santander edge saver

In the end it did take 2 days. In this day & age, it really should be automated & be instant

I was able to close my edge saver and open a new one at the same time by calling them.
I have 3 edge savers and in the past I have found that after closing one, whenever i try to open a 3rd online the system says no. I have previously had to call them to get the 3rd one opened. Last time after asking Sandi to close one, it remained open a week later, so I called them and got it closed.
I had one with the bonus rate ending in a couple of days, so I emptied it. I just called them and they closed it over the phone and transferred the accrued interest to my current account. Then they transferred me through to someone else that opened another one for me, which was immediately visable in my app, so I was able to transfer the funds straight back into it.

You can have more than 1 edge saver!?

Yes, if you have the requisite current accounts.

They tightened up the rules recently though, you used to be able to have 2 edge current accounts and 2 edge savers, if you do, you can renew and keep 2 (currently anyway) + the paid edge account to make 3. However I believe now you can only have 1 free and 1 premium
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

According to the current information sheet (effective from 28 April 2026), a couple can still have a free Edge sole current a/c each and a free Edge joint current a/c. This allows 2 x Edge Savers each allowing a total of £16K to be saved at 6%.

You can have a maximum of three Edge Saver accounts in total – one linked to each Edge current account you hold (whether sole or joint) and one linked to your Edge Explorer current account.
So a couple could have 5 or 6 Edge Savers.

It appears from a cursory look that the same fee charging rules apply to the Edge Up, but sadly not the Edge Explorer, so the additional Edge Savers do a little more than cancel out the fee, while tying up £4k of capital. But that is a good deal if you value the Edge Explorer account benefits (though I'd think one joint account would be the best way to both get the benefits).

To clarify I was talking about individual Edge Current account, not people using joint accounts
Santander used to allow you to have 2 Edge current accounts in your own name (the "free" one where you don't activate the fee if you don't meet the criteria) plus the Edge Explorer (with the £17 fee). I should have clarified but they changed the criteria for the basic Edge Current account so you can only have 1 sole, 1 joint instead of 2 sole. Hence the MSE approach of maximum interest minimum cost by having 2x Edge Saver with £0 cost is no longer possible for new customers.
You can add the paid for accounts if you want to of course, but like with the Edge, new customers can only have 1 sole 1 joint Edge Up and only 1 Edge Explorer full stop (sole or joint)
Edited - thank you masonic

It doesn't look like Edge Up allows you to hold an Edge Saver, only Edge and Edge Explorer. Edge Up is another "free" option as you don't get charged until meeting the criteria for cashback.
