Followed your advice Woby_Tide, and can now record off of freeview digital, which is a big relief. One problem however- its fine when the TV is on - but (as far as i can tell) once the TV is switched off, it won't record the digital signal. By turning off the TV, is it turning off the digital receiver in the tv too? Does that meen I need to try and work out how to get the TV to turn itself on? Am I in for some late evenings or am I just going crazy?

Glad you sorted out the first part of the problem. You are correct that the TV needs to be on and that the signal won't be output when it is switched off. However, all is not lost, there is an internal DVB Timer programming system within the TV. Choose Menu > Setup > DVB Timer Programming. Fill in the required details of the time of your programme as per the screen instructions. Once you do this the little light next to the red 'on' light oon the front of the TV should go orange. If you continue watching the TV, about 30 secs before your programme starts it will change channels on the DVB tuner and not allow you to change channel on the Digital tuner unless you cancel the recording(you can still watch the analogue tuner if you want a different channel). Or if you switch the TV off the orange light will stay on and at the set recording time the 'tuner' will =become active but the TV screen will stay off.

Big thing to note is you also still need to programme your VCR to record at the appropriate time so you have 2 timers to set(there is a facility if you have a compatible VCR to just set the TV and it controls the VCR recording part but it's more complicated but is in the manual, maybe one for the future once the old fashioned way works, your VCR may not be compatible either!)

Probably best to check this works with another programme whilst you are still about one day to prove the theory works though!
