I have a Sony 32 IDTV, and when I recorded Beeb2 the other evening and played back the programme - it played back really awful picture, blurry and shakey.
The digital picture on the tv is great, but when i switch to analogue the pictures not very good. Could it be the video is recording the analogue picture instead of the digital one?
Can anyone help to cure this????
Many thanks

Your video would normally record the analogue broadcast via its internal tuner.( There are no Videos with a digital tuner as far as I know).
I'm not sure how you would go about recording from the TV, but would assume that you would have to select AV as the source for the Video, then it would record the output from the TV via your scart connection.( you would only be able to record the programme you were watching )
Hope this helps,That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Yes, I see what you mean.
I saw an earlier thread about someone recording digital tv to video, but they had a freeview box, and as i have idtv I dont know if the same thing they tried would work for me?0 -
I'd like to ask something on this - its probably the most basic thing in the world, but how do you select AV as the source for the Video? I have a Panasonic 28" IDTV and want to record from freeview, but am struggling."Excellent !!"0

I'm not sure steve, but I will ask my OH when I get home to see if he managed to record yet!
Its a nuisance isnt it - digital technology and you cant record, might as well go back to analogue!0 -
True enough, Shez. My analogue Channel 5 reception resembles "Scott of the Antartic" whereas on Freeview its crystal clear - so I need to record off of it to record my Sunday night baseball programme.
My TV has 2 scart ports, but my video only has one, and 2 arial ports (i think) if thats any help. I've seen plenty on the web about this, but a lot of it is confusing, and uses about 50 leads.
Let me know how you get on."Excellent !!"0 -
The Panasonic IDTV's have a menu option (though not sure if you have to be in analogue or digital mode to see it, think it is part of the setup menu)which specifies what the scarts on the back 'output'. This is either digital, analogue or monitor. For best quality you should set it to digital. The best option is normally to have AV1 set to digital, choose the channel you want on the digital tuner within the TV, then connect that scart to your video. Then on your video when you want to record select channel 0 or AV (the video display should say AV normally, go to BBC1 then choose the channel backwards button is another way to find it normally) and away you go. If you want you can then switch to analogue and change channels and the video will continue recording off the digital channel you chose. The other output options are analogue, which is the same but teh scart will output whatever channel your analogue tuner is set to(and I think this is the default onthe Panasonic at least). The monitor option means that it outputs whatever you can see on the screen at that time, so if you started recording on the video but switched between analogue and digital tuners on the TV you'd see the channel switching on your recording too. If you set your video to record from the normal channels within the video i.e. 1-5 the picture quality will always be analogue as the videos internal tuner is being used.
To Shez - whilst I only know this on a Panasonic I'd be pretty certain there is something similar on the Sony as it should allow you to record from either analogue or digital tuner too.0 -
Hi,
I was wodering if you had sorted out the iDTV. I had a look at a Sony manual regarding connections between TV and VCR. It might be worth checking.
1 RF (Aerial) connections.
TV Aerial----TV Digital AE input----TV AE Output----VCR RF Input. VCR RF Output----TV Analog AE Input.
2 Scart Connections. TV i/o Scart socket no 3
VCR Scart (TV).
AV as Source
If you look at your VCR remote control you should find an Input select key. This switches the program source between the VCR's internal tuner to its Scart connections.
Hope this is of some help. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
The Panasonic IDTV's only have a single RF socket(in/out), but have to admit never actually seen what signal comes out, I'm guessing it may be 'monitor' style whatever is being watched at the time0
