Sent the template email in April, didn't hear anything...chased it up in May...they said I'd hear by 30 September but there's been nothing. What's my next step please ?

When did you arrange the finance?

Cinch, under their original name of MyAuto Limited, only came into existence in August 2018 and didn't start using the Cinch brand until 2020. They also don't have a finance company. Cinch is an appointed representative that introduces customers to finance companies.

  • You're right - finance is via Zopa. Reading more, it does sound like a case of just waiting some more.

One thing that hasn't been covered above: don't rely solely on the seller having passed this on. For a commission complaint, the lender that actually provided the finance is the firm responsible for the commission arrangement, so it is worth sending the complaint directly to the lender as well — or at the very least getting confirmation in writing of which firm actually holds your complaint — and asking for a complaint reference and a written acknowledgement.

The timing matters too, which is why you were asked when the finance was arranged: whether a discretionary commission arrangement could have been involved depends on when the agreement was taken out. If you haven't already, include the agreement date and agreement number in that direct complaint, and keep copies of your April email and the May chase.

And as the date you were given has now passed, a short written chase asking for the complaint reference and a new, specific response date is a reasonable next step, rather than simply waiting indefinitely on a promise that has already slipped once.
