    Greater than what?

Large companies aren't necessarily more resilient to failure (e.g. the original Thomas Cook) but it is true that multiple travel services booked together, such as cruise and flights, will generally comprise a package holiday within the scope of the Package Travel Regulations, and these do grant some rights over separate DIY bookings, but much will depend on exactly what you're anticipating needing protection against…

Amex charge retailers a larger commission than do Visa or Mastercard, so some (typically smaller) companies shun them. It's always, in my view, a good policy to hold both types of card for just this situation. If you expected to be able to pay this on Amex your credit limit with them must be high and therefore I suspect it would be straightforward and quick to apply for a Visa card (through your bank?) as a second credit card. Request a low credit limit if it suits you of say £1k. Then pay a portion of the cost on the visa card to get the S75 protection as suggested and the balance via your debit card.

The new card can always be used for shopping occasionally to keep it 'warm' but is a useful backup for if your amex card fails to be accepted anytime. It happens!

Chargebacks are for Credit cards as well.

S75 is a very small % of recovering customers money.

Chargeback in all circumstances is operated and controlled by the card-issuer, if the card-issuer doesn't agree with your position you have little to no challenge.

S75 rights are enshrined in law and enforceable through court process. It is important not to conflate one with the other even if they are perceived as achieving the same result.

However, where someone pays via an agency they may not be able to enforce rights against a service provider - so this may potentially be an issue for this person in any event.

"As it is a large company and the holiday includes flights I believe I have greater protection."

Just an observation - who is providing the flights, is it the cruise line as part of their overall package or the holiday company as an element of their deal ?

If there are are problems with flights (God forbid) the former is a better arrangement.
