A quick Google showed that it was Octopus.

Following on from the earlier debacle I really don't know what's going on here for such a jump.

Well done, you've maxed out your credit score.

Shame that it means nothing to anyone but you.

Nobody but you ever sees the gimmick score, don't worry about it

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I realise the actual score is not all that useful really. Currently have an offer out on a house and I'm aware lenders have their own scoring systems anyway but I find the score or at least report helpful for keeping on top of things and a warning of anything funny happening.

I just thought it weird that there was such a big jump when nothing major has happened as far as I am aware.

"I just thought it weird that there was such a big jump when nothing major has happened as far as I am aware."

That just goes to prove how utterly meaningless the score is.

"I realise the actual score is not all that useful really … lenders have their own scoring systems"

I mean, you've answered your own question, really. The only score that matters is the lender's own internally-generated score. That score is commercially sensitive and highly confidential, no-one will ever know what it actually is. And one lender will score you differently to another, since they each have their own risk appetite, lending criteria and target customer base.

The only possible use the CRA score might have is to alert you to a change in your credit profile, but aside from that it's as much use as a chocolate teapot.

  • It's not helpful though, as you can see.

The only way you'd know if it's somewhat accurate is to check your report, which somewhat defeats the purpose of having a "score" in the first palce. Might as well just check your report.
