    Here's EDF's offer for a tariff for me -

    Go Electric 18m v3

    Day 6am - 11pm - 30.78 p/kWh
    Night - 11pm - 6am - 6.66 p/kWh
    Standing charge - 61.12 p/day
    £100 exit fee

Versus the "loyal" day time rate at Octopus of 34.670p, and only 11:30pm and 5:30am night rate too.

Been with Octopus for ages but seems they are wanting to turn the screw a little to drive profits too much compared to EDF's offer

Prices are predicted to go down in Spring and Summer 2027, so i guess the question is whether EDF will save me £50 more that Octopus by then (since the exit fee is higher with EDF), and that looks pretty likely. (although the potential cashback of £50 for the switch offsets that)

The more interesting issue is that EDF are giving 18 months fixed rather than 12 months - so if things don't go as predicted and prices don't fall as much as hoped, then you're looking at another hit next winter as the Octopus fix ends, but EDF is, in effect, potentially locking prices in for a second winter (best strategy is likely check whether the exit fee is worth it in April and then September/October, and at both times look at predictions for winter too)

Octopus' 12 month fix will end just as they are pricing in winter 2027/28 for any further fixes so it's potentially setting things up for a rough 2028 as well.

It really doesn't seem like they are wanting "loyal" customers at all.

The only downside for me is that EDF's smart feature doesn't seem to include as many chargers as Octopus so that's not an option at the moment, on the other hand Octopus might change things about with that side of things potentially too … just look at their sudden enforcement of the strict 6 hours Charge Cap last year with little warning having lulled us all into a false sense of security.

Re: Loyal Octopus Fix October 2026. we have an electricity only home, with solar, heat pump, battery (13kwh) and an EV and AI says stay on the variable as it will still be cheaper over the winter when the battery won’t cover all the heat pump and household peak time use. So best to check for your own circumstances, just ask Google or any AI assistant.
