You should be able to open one tomorrow, takes a working day to “clear” itself on the nationwide system.

I see the Nationwide rate is 6.5% with max of £200 pm. For anyone interested Chase has same rate but witg £300 max.

Is this the same as previous issues in allowing one payment each calendar month, ie on 30 Sep, 1 Oct, 1 Nov etc.?

Yes - so you can get £2,600 in there over the next 12 months.

The "not until the day after" renewal rule for Nationwide means that the renewal date will creep forward by one day each year.

I started off in 2024 on the 26th of September, the renewal crept forward each year - 2025: (Monday) Sep 29th, 2026 Sept 30th. If theres an equivalent account next year, renewal will be postponed to back end of October.

The ability to open "late" and topup on the 1st means that I got approx £94 from an account where the illustration shows you'll get around £84. Worked out at around 300+days extra interest on £200.

£94.53 this year for me - matured on the 24th of September.

To the surprise of a relative who told me it wasn't worth doing.

£400 in already for next year.

You could instead close a week or so early to avoid precessing by a month.
