Spam calls since transferring 7 numbers

Wondering if anyone else has noticed this too, but i recently ported all my family from smarty to spusu.

Since then, the amount of spam calls on all of the numbers is crazy. We get calls every day and are having to block them on all of the devices.

Had sequential numbers call and random ones. But all are either ones that hang up after we answer or are recorded messages about jobs and to add them to whatsapp.

Only started once we transferred to spusu, so was wondering if one of the providers have sold our information or been hacked. Just seems strange that all 7 numbers are getting called.

Used complicated passwords on both smarty and spusu, so don’t feel it’s anything unique to us.

Anyone else had something similar?

Sounds like spusu selling on your info

Unless those spam calls are personalised there is no evidence that anyone's details have been sold/hacked.

Only have sample of three mobile numbers but it does seem that spam calls do happen in targeted bursts, so a Vodafone number will get several calls a day, than quiet down before an O2 number gets peppered.

Not a general fix but spam has been more or less eliminated for us by using the 'smart' call screening now available on newer Samsung handsets.

Admire your total faith in one budget mobile operator, I'd have been minded to keep 1 or 2 on different networks just in case of coverage or other issues.

There was a TV programme on data problems that had a bit about gathering numbers..

It's possible that because all your numbers are moved, stored or whatever, together that's why it's happening to you all. They only have to get into one and probably pick up the others.

Remember the old email hacking and they could collect all the addresses used by one person.

Have any of your contacts in your phone found the same?

More likely, this sort of spam call was being blocked by Smarty (as they're part of Three) but spusu don't have as clever a blocking system as Smarty/Three and they're now getting through.

Nothing personalised in the calls, so feels like general spam.

One of the numbers is for a tablet that no one has the number for, so ruled out a contact harvester.

I migrated one for a few months and then did the rest afterwards as smarty/three signal is awful in our area.

Policies don't suggest they sell my data, so was thinking that maybe there was a spam service smarty have and not spusu.

Started to enable call screening and blocking unknown numbers, just the risk of genuine calls getting lost this way.

Any other spusu users seeing the same?

Spammers don't buy numbers, because it's easy to form numbers.

Spusu is very much a bare bones service with it's core network overseas (it just uses EE's masts).

It's far more likely that they simply don't have the spam filtering technology that a major network will have.

There is one thing you can do to help, don't answer calls you don't recognise. Doing so confirms there is a person on the end of the phone and will generate more calls to that number.

If you have a need to answer calls from numbers you don't recognise then turn on the call filtering available on many phones (the phone answers on your behalf and asks the caller to state who they are and why they are calling)
