  • I want to share a story with you. My daughter was a Park Hamper agent and she took money off a dear friend of hers on a regular basis. The good friend moved and so she had to send the vouchers by post. She thought she was choosing the right service and sent them off recorded delivery. (Weight of package was recorded as 50 grams) The Vouchers duly arrived and the friend signed for them in good faith. When she sat down and opened the envelope there was nothing in there. The Envelope had been steamed opened and then sealed again with glue. Park Hampers blamed my daughter. The Post Office are doing a full investigation and all roads lead to the fact that my daughter was at fault for not sending then by special delivery. There is a thief at the Royal Mail now enjoying £200 of vouchers intended for two special children
There is a good ending to this....The supposed recipient of the vouchers …. Has got some amazing friends The end of this is that they organized a secret collection and raised £185 via Facebook and in person. We now have a lovely lady crying with happiness not crying with despair. Facebook friends have done something that Park Hampers and the Royal Mail had it in their power to do but wouldnt. Park Hampers even said it was too much trouble to cancel the vouchers
So there are morals to this story
Do not send anything valuable by Recorded Delivery always send special delivery and ensure you are covered if it does not arrive your end.
Do not use Park Hampers. When they end up trying to turn a friend against another friend , remember

you are far better off opening an easy access savings acct, and putting in money via direct debit. Then using that money to buy presents/vouchers yourself.
  • Try a credit union xmas account.
I have a deep burning indifference

Just as import now as it was then.

    Stay away from hamper companies.

If you must save do anything else. From coins in a jar to credit unions, whatever.

Don't see the point of them.

    (1) Save money in a bank or building society. Then at Christmas take the money out and spend it on whatever you like. Earn a little bit of interest in the meantime too.

    or

    (2) Save money with a Hamper company and earn no interest(*). At the end you get your money back in vouchers which limits where you can spend it. If unlucky, find out it's another Farepak.

Why would anyone choose option (2)???

(*) I assume no interest is paid?

option 2 alos means you can;'t find things at the best price.

between 20% off vouchers, Black Friday lightming deals, shopping during sale periods, I don't ever pay full price for the gifts I buy. Not to mention Topcashback, etc.

    thatpost made np sense.

In any case, hamper companies are a mugs game. Save in a savings account. you can open one at the post office?
