Atom Bank opinions please

Hi all, has anyone had experience of Atom Bank? I like the idea of a 6 or 9 month fix. Good or not (the bank, I mean)?

When they had decent rates I used them a lot.

    Simple, clear app.

    Near instant deposits/withdrawals.

Used them for a few years now. Good app, zero issues.

Great app and I used to really like them until they became uncompetitive with really rubbish rates. Shame.

Wouldn't say they are rubbish. They fluctuate between average and market leading dependinng on their needs.

Edit to add - just checked rates and 5.1% for 2 and 3 year fixes is near the top

  • Decent bank with competitive rates at the moment , have used them for years without any problems.

  • Big fan of Atom here. I like their app, very clear. Like their statements. The one time I had an issue, phone support and follow up was great.

Instant credit/withdrawal. I sent money on Good Friday this year, which credited the same day (very surprised, thought I'd missed the ISA cut off).

As others are saying, they used to be very competitive but then rates fell. I'm eagerly watching them rise currently.

When they first appeared on the scene they offered a 1 yr rate that was good enough to overcome my various reservations, including that they were new. I never had any problems with them whatsoever, though I did find their assumption that their customers needed to be amused like 5 year olds grated a little. I just want my money looked after. Amusement I can get elsewhere.

I also didn't like that it was exclusively app based, so if your phone was stolen there might be short-term problems. Nor that all documents were in the app and couldn't be downloaded. I don't remember there being a phone-number or email address either, just messaging, so very bare-bones. They were obviously trying tell us something. Was a good while ago so may have changed for the better since.

But so long as the rate is good, for a fixed term/rate there shouldn't be much need for comunication.

Atom's fine. If you go for monthly interest it 1., allows you to pick the date of the month it's paid and 2., will always pay on that date to your nominated account even at weekends.
