ISA Dilemma

But if you have contributed more than £20k then you really should not try to fix it yourself.
^This.
Contact the provider the excess subscription(s) were paid to and ask them to do what is necessary - this could be a 'repair' or 'voiding' depending on circumstances.
That way you also make the provider liable for getting things right. If they fluff it up and report incorrect information to HMRC, or don't do the repair/voiding correctly, then you can put the blame on them. If you take the DIY approach then there is nobody but yourself to blame.

It depends on the OP’s actual circumstances: see my comment above re flexible ISAs.

How can that Moneywise article possibly contain errors? Look at the process they go through before it's published (it says there)
Editorial Standards & Fact-Checking
Every article published on MoneyWise UK goes through a rigorous editorial process:
Research – We gather data from official regulators,
product providers and reputable industry bodies.Writing – Content is drafted by a knowledgeable writer
with relevant subject-matter expertise.Fact-check – A separate team member verifies all
statistics, rates, dates and regulatory references.Review – The article is reviewed for clarity, tone
and completeness before publication.Ongoing updates – We revisit published content
regularly to ensure it remains accurate and reflects the latest rates,
rules and product changes.0 -
No problem, but thanks. I also tend to assume that members are male for the same reason. On some forums, I deliberately don't reveal my gender, as it's irrelevant. I'm on a car forum, where 99% of the members are male, and my user name sounds masculine.
I deal with all our finances, insurances, etc. The very thought of doing any of it stresses out the OH. He even said, seriously, that we should have all our money in our current account, so that he could withdraw it from there if anything happened to me.
I have his explicit consent to do anything with our finances.

My Nationwide Flex regular saver matured yesterday, so just opened a new one. At the very bottom of the last web page of the process was a line that said:
Is someone controlling you or your money?
Get support for domestic, financial and economic abuse (this will not show in your internet history).

Clearly they aren't doing a good enough job, because the “one ISA per type per tax year” restriction was removed 2 years before the article was written. Humans can mess up too.
