ISA Dilemma

Of course, our disaster pack contains all details of everything.
PS. You are not the only one to have said this but, why does everyone (incorrectly) assume my OH is my wife?

You are right, I'm usually careful about ascribing gender or marital status to someone and in this case it was the OP who described filling out applications for their wife and not yourself - my mistake for not checking.

I used wife as it was in one of the posts on the page when I replied, apologies.
More widely, it probably comes from an assumption that men are usually the ones managing the finances (which is perhaps outdated in 2026.) Nor should we assume that someone’s OH is of the opposite sex, or their spouse.

Doesn't that open the system to fraud, allowing multiple flexible ISAs to be opened and all but one closed before end of the FY?

That was the motivation behind the temporary rule change that prohibited any money being flexibly withdrawn and replaced in a different ISA. That change wasn't properly thought through.
A better solution would be more detailed annual returns.

No that seems to be pretty much how most husband's handle matters for their wives who have zero engagement in such matters😄

It does. In the next year or two HRMC's plan to counter this is to move to monthly reporting of contributions.

I once called a bank pretending to be my teenage daughter (at her request). I put on a high pitched voice. The operator said "you don't actually sound female". I replied "I'm getting over a very bad cold". That got me through security and I got the info I requested.

Not sure if it helps but I once accidentally transferred money to my ISA by accident instead of my baby's JISA.
Baby had not given verbal consent to having a JISA....
This put me over the annual limit.
I called up HMRC to explain that I'd made a genuine mistake and ask what to do.
They weren't too bothered at all and just said I'd need to pay tax on the excess amount for the period it has been in my name.

You can legally put money into your baby's ISA without issue. The law allows those with parental responsibility to make decisions and take actions on behalf of their children
I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?1
