Order a new new one, if you haven't already.

As you can order a new one when you have an expired card, must be fairly normal for Virgin.

Many providers will make a card dormant after 13 months of no use. The underlying acc will still be active. As payments are going in.

In my experience, the general rule I've found is that if a debit card is coming up for replacement, and it hasn't been used for an extended period, a replacement card may not be issued (but the account is left as is). Put another way, an in-date card that hasn't been used for 13 months will still be usable (but might trigger fraud checks for online or overseas payments).

For me this has happened with debit cards Barclays and Lloyds current accounts.

Being someone who keeps old current accounts alive but dormant with the cards left in a drawer, for debit cards I make sure I do a transfer and a cash withdrawal at some point in the 3 months prior to expiry.

Unused credit cards may trigger a "We're going to close your account" or "We're going to close your account unless…", which may occur at any time.

  • Find the Virgin Money App very tricky to use.

Had a similar situation to OP.

    Parameters seem to change regularly.

MrsM went to use her Santander debit card this week to pay for a NS&I bond and found it had expired end April, a replacement had definitely not been sent as it was not showing in the app. She doesn't use it very often but the last time was 31 Dec and 1 Jan to buy premium bonds and a pension contribution so a very short time from last use.
