Nationwide Home Insurance - ridiculous security

To be honest, I think shredding your statements as soon as you get them might be a little keen - I keep about a year's worth so that I can refer back to them if I need to, and have always been glad I have done so, as the time taken in sorting out any issues means that a 'simple' problem can easily require three of four statements before it is sorted out.0

i had a similar problem with tax credits the other day. the woman i spoke to did the usual security checks on me but asked everything including the name of my daughters nursery which trades as one name, has another name for the nursery and is soon changing its name so i gave her all 3 of them and she said id failed security.
when i called back the bloke i spokme with was just happy to have my NINO, name, address, mr mobs name and DOB and my daughters name. There's someone in my head, but it's not me0 -

Look at the direct debit details? I would expect the reference number to be the policy number. If you have online banking, you can probably see the details immediately, rather than having to go into a branch to get a copy.
Your original conversation suggests that you didn’t ask for that. I’m sure Nationwide would post your policy details, if you asked them.
I think the main point here is that a good customer services rep (and yes, I've been one) would volunteer such action. In response to me saying "how can I access my policy? I don't know my number and I want to make a change", they might offer a solution instead of continually saying "no". That's what makes such phonecalls so extremely frustrating - we don't know what to ask!Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
Surely fraudsters wouldn't be too bothered in securing items on your policy? What could they do, apart from change DD date or add items - perhaps common sense could help but then again where do you draw the line! arghhh lolHelp me to help you :santa2:0

Just had to speak to my insurer with a query - they identified me by name, address and dob only, never asked for policy number. Similarly, if I speak to Virgin media, they actually refuse account number asking for address and dob.0
