Nationwide Home Insurance - ridiculous security

Actually we should be concerned. I arranged my insurance with one company, and another sent the policy! I rang both but neither (call centres) seemed sure, or even to care! The underwriter was the same though, and I was told not to worry!!:rolleyes:0

Not all insurers are banks0 -
Am I right in thinking this is vaguely ridiculous?
No i dont think you right, Im sure you would be complaining if someone had canceled your policy by just using your name and address as a security question!0 -
In situtations where the ID of a policy holder is in question, and its urgent (i.e. house burnt down) very little policy info would be given out until a loss adjustor could get out and verify the customer, although this too can be problematic.0

not very easy if all your proof of ID was burnt in the same house fire!I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Thanks all...
I agree entirely with bank security, it's the home insurance that seems ridiculous... is it really a common problem that people fraudulently try to insure extra items on other people's policies? They'd have difficulty claiming on it!
I've got my buildings insurance with CIS and they're always fab - really helpful on the phone, good online services...
I then took out the contents with Nationwide and no-one's offering me any support at all. I did ask whether it would be on an email and they said "No, we'd never email you your policy number".
Surely they could post it to me or something? Otherwise, I'm left paying for a policy I can't ever access..?
And FYI - when I closed my bank account with Lloyds TSB, I didn't know my account number, but they looked me up based on my personal details. Not suggesting that was the right thing for them to do as a bank, but it shows flexibility.Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -

my passport and birth certificate are kept in the same draw in my sitting room, my utility bills and bank statements are kept in another draw in the same unit so I could very easily lose them all. (though as a result of this thread I think I'll move some of them.)0 -
We keep our bank books and passports in the works safe and the rest at home so we've covered most problems,I hope.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

just had similar after having a nationwide card eaten by a cash machine. Turns out they don't automatically replace them and won't send out a new one without the account no. Now seeing as I shred my statements that's a little tricky till the next one...0
