So if you could get a refund, then they could/would be looking to deduct 4,835 @ what ever they charge per mile.

Really I want to report the car as faulty - According to the AA report the wet belt needed to be replaced asap as heavily corroded- she wouldn’t have bought the can if she knew that within 6 months she would need to pay £1000 on replacing that. I know it’s a wear and tear thing but still they could have made that clear.

do you know roughly what that might be?

For a couple of hundred pounds she could've had the AA (or RAC or whoever) inspect the car before purchase.

Can be anything, have seen posts from 10p a mile to a recent thread where they were deducting £1000 for 800 miles.

This may seem a bit harsh but…..
Buying a 4 year old car with 80,000+ on the clock with the intention of keeping it for 4 years, when averaging 12,000 a year is not a good idea. The wet belt, tyre and clutch are all consumables, having to replace them on a car with 80,000 miles is to be expected and the clutch is still working. Checking tyre condition and fluid levels is driver responsibility, especially having driven 5,000 miles since purchase. I cannot see that anything was "faulty".
The car may only be 4 years old but it has had the usage of a car twice that age and hopefully the purchase price reflected that usage.

yes I get it now. The car cost 7195- I know the mileage is high, but would have thought a 2022 car would have lasted four years tbh.
A mechanic did a full service and fitted the wet belt.
Inspection findings & recommendations
• NSF (nearside front) tyre is bald and requires replacement before the vehicle is considered roadworthy.
• Timing-belt material/debris was found in the oil pan.
• The removed timing belt was found to be in very poor condition / severely deteriorated.
• Engine timing was checked and adjusted as required.
Work carried out
Wet timing belt replacement carried out. Full service completed. Engine timing checked and adjusted. A full vehicle check was also carried out and the above additional condition findings were recorded.
