What broadband speed would suit me?

I am coming to the end of my BT/EE 150Mb internet only contract.

It is costing a fortune.

I use the internet for general surfing, banking, paying bills, emails, watching occasional Youtube vidros and I listen to internet radio a bit.

Could I go to a lower speed?

Yes. Youtube will run very happily on 25mbps, and would be ok on less than that at lower definition.

150mb shouldn't be costing you more than £25 a month absolute maximum.

We were quite happy on 35Mb broadband (two adults, two teenage kids) and only upgraded to 70Mb as it worked out cheaper.

I remember having 35Mb and stream TV all the time - no issues, faster now as the new minimum is faster.

I see Plusnet are offering 145Mb, 24 month contract, £23.99 and £140 on a credit card as a freebie.

Is this a deal I should go for?

Sky have a very similar deal, but on the MSE Broadband tool, Plusnet show a better customer rating score.

Broadband can't be much cheaper than that, from a well known provider, can it? Of any speed.

If you are on full fibre then 150 is right at the bottom end of pricing anyway so going slower may not be cheaper.

Look at the comparison sites such as uswitch and Topcashback (use the compare utilities section) and you'll likely find great prices with cash and voucher incentives.

It's less than half your current price, and it's rare to see a deal that works out significantly cheaper than that.

In your position, I'd go for it.

I would go for it, also factor in the April price increase in 2027 and 2028.

They are offering 300Mb, for £1 extra a month, and a credit card loaded with a fiver less.

I don't need the extra speed, although the price diffrrence is minimal. I have stuck with the 150Mb.

The Plusnet broadband starts for me on Wednesday.
