Towing a caravan with an electric car?

Of course you can charge and drive, that is what regen braking does. What it does to battery temperatures
with the setup in the image is a different matter entirely. But try driving with while plugged in… Which is what the picture showed 🤦♀️😶🌫️

Well it looks too close to call!!!
Tuscon phev can tow 1210 kgs. Caravan is…Unladen weight: 1147kg. Laden weight: 1270kg

Please don't get a PHEV, utterly useless machines.
Firstly, you still have a car with a petrol engine and all the nastiness and servicing expense that goes with that.
Secondly you have a tiny battery with poor range, often poor charging rates and limited life.
Battery charging cycles is what kills them, and a battery that only does 50 miles is getting charged a lot more than one that does 250 miles….
It's funny how people here are predicting an EV car's range will be decimated towing a caravan.
I don't know if it will, the point is neither do they….

Of course towing a caravan will reduce the range of an EV, potentially quite significantly.
I would never go back to an ICE car, but anyone denying that range is not impacted is denying physics.
And its not hard to find studies showing that.

Surely a PHEV makes sense for us? We will only have the car for 3 years so battery degredation will be minimal. Most journeys less than 10 miles and just 1 or 2 journeys a year are long distance.

Here are some useful links.
All UK EV's that can tow with weight ratings:

And all Plugin hybrids:
https://towcar.info/GB/all-PHEV.phpIt looks like the Citroen C5 Aircross would just manage it, but the upfront payment is terrifying @ £7k.

That is a no go then, it's the max weights that apply not the fact that you load it lightly. You need something with a max tow that
exceeds 1270kg.
When it says laden is that the mas gross weight? Annoying that different manufacturers use different terms.
Unladen can mean a completely empty van or with some essentials like a water container and a battery, then you can get MIRO
or laden that means with the average stuff like the battery, water and enought stuff for a weekend away and then you get the
gross weight which is the figure you need.
Ther gross weight must be less than your manufacturers max tow limit. BUT to confuse things further the max tow maybe
with just a driver and a full tank of fuel and anything loaded into the car above that decreases the tow limit.
As an example I had a Mondeo Estate (2004) Max tow was 1800kg, cars kerbweight was 1564kg which would be 3364kg.
BUT… The gross trainweight was just 3200kg. So you could not load the vehicle to the max limit and tow the max limit.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
It depends on the license, I think now everyone gets B+E it's based on the actual weight. So if you don't exceed 1210kg then it'll be fine.
BUT you'd have almost no room for error for being overweight. You'd be much better getting something with a bit more headroom.0 -
I have a '23 Tucson HEV and a 1100kg caravan. Suberb towing and 28-30mpg (47-55 solo).

Can ou point out where I said it wouldn't be affected?
I used the word "decimated"
