No aerial?

I was looking at new TVs and some of them state that no aerial is required for live TV. I was thinking about getting a new aerial, is TV without an aerial ok, even if your broadband is not super fast?

What speed do you mean by "not super fast" ?

I have noticed my Vodafone BB is not as fast as Virgin, speed test = 52 upload and 48 download.

We don't have an aerial due to my failing to add a cable when it was being refurbed.

We have Skystream and our connection is only 35mb and we have very little glitching. That said I do have a Cat6 cabled connection directly from the router to the Sky puck

At some point I will throw away my Humax PVR

So you are talking about Freely?

What speed is your broadband? 30mbps should be plenty to get you a stable connection, you can get away with 15mbps assuming you have nothing going on in the background.

The bigger issue for me would be that TV manufacturers are bad at updating their embedded apps (planned obsolesce) and so will it continue to work in 4-6 years time or will you be stuck on an old version of the app thats not compatible with the service. Freely is slightly different, as a not-for-profit with political backing so may be different from the likes of Netflix etc but its too new to see if it does provide longer term legacy support than the commercial apps do.

A lot of bugs in Freely system, I haven't put all my eggs in one basket.

(I have Freeview, Freesat and Freely.)
