My parents are celebrating their 40th also in june!

We can all work together it seems! Im their party planner, they are having a small party at home and i am going to decorate the house ect! Im quite excited.

In terms of their present I was thinking of getting their wedding video put onto dvd so that everyone can watch it at the party. I know its on some old fashioned tape thing, before vhs (god knows what its on!) but im not sure how much it will be. Im also thinking of getting one of their wedding photos blown up and put into a frame to put into their room but didnt know if that was a bit corny!

Just want to say thanks to everyone who has offered ideas in the last week or so...am already thinking about the ruby slippers idea...think there's a lot of fun to be had with this. ;):p

Like the idea of getting the photos/video updated for the occasion. I think my parents had a film made of their wedding (no mean feat back in 1969!:rotfl:), so I will have to do some digging to see if a) I can find it, and b) if I can turn it into something 21st century to add to the celebrations!!

    Thanks, everyone! :D

  • I struck lucky the other day when in B&Q, they had reduced all their patio rose plants down to £1 and there was one called Red Romance! Also found a nice pot reduced down to £3 so bought that too and potted it up yesterday - looks quite impressive! :)

seeds??..........Swiss Chard, ruby; Heuchara, ruby bells; Swede, ruby; Tomato, Aunt Ruby's german cherry; Nasturtium, ruby kisses; I think there's a beetroot, ruby something and I think there's a small sunflower with ruby in the name but best of all there's an astrantia called ruby wedding. :)

We did the box thing with 40 ruby items and used many of these. We also planted a shrub which I can't remember the name of (very common one maybe weigelia or deutzia?) but there again it also had ruby in the title and around it we put loads of those glass beads (red obviously ;) ) as a mulch.

A friend has got this for her aunt and uncles 50th anniversary. You can start it on the month of the anniversary so it runs for a whole year and you personlise each page with the couple's name:

Re the memory book ,i did one for my parenta retirement a few years ago and am in the process of adding to it for their 40th ( managed to smuggle it out of their house!) I asked everyone invited to conribute something if poss eg a written message, old photos, any special or funny memories etc. Got some great responses and mum added all the cards they got later so its an ongoing project
One day the big prize will be mine!

  • It's my parents 40th Wedding Anniversary in August and my sister and I have used "Photobox" to make up a photobook of pictures of them over the years, its very easy to use, you just down load the pics to the Photobox website and it guides you through. You can add your own captions and have different number/sized photos on each page. They often do buy one get one free which I took up last month and paid £19.99 for two which I thought was brilliant as they are of top quality. You don't have to get two the same you can get two different ones. (I got the idea from a friend who recently got married and made them up for her bestman, brides, parents etc).

We are also having a family photograph blown up and put on canvas.

    Hope this helps.:o
