Ruby Wedding ideas...

I know that this thread has been done before, but I would be really grateful for ideas to celebrate a Ruby Wedding (we have 3 coming up between June 2008 and March 2009 - both sets of our parents and a very special pair of friends). I realise that I am asking for inspiration quite early, but I would love to do something special for all three couples (Mr P and I are both only children so there are no brothers and sisters, and the third couple are also very close family friends - we refer to them as our "other parents"...I've known them all my life (they are the best friends of my parents) and they really are like another set of parents to us!).

I would love to come up with some special ideas for all of them - I remember reading about a website on here which told you the No. 1 song for the anniversary date each year, so you could put together a CD of music, but cannot find it via the search facility (so if anyone can enlighten me, I would be very grateful!! :A).

Normally, for this sort of "special" anniversary (silver, gold, ruby...) I go for the appropriately-named rose bush-type of gift...but would be very happy to receive any suggestions for alternatives - each couple is different (in-laws are more of a "one-off" special present, whilst my own parents would see the funny side to 40 x "red/ruby" presents...including the tin of plum tomatoes! ;)).

Any suggestions very gratefully received! :D

    Hi piglet,

This site is great for telling you the number 1 song and album on your birthday or anniversary http://www.everyhit.co.uk/dates/index.html
If you put in the first date you can then bring up a list of the number 1 song on that date for every year from then until now (if that makes sense!!)

You could also do a compliation of songs with "Ruby" or "Red" in them - just off the top of my head there's Ruby Tuesday by the Rolling Stones, Ruby by Kaiser Chiefs, UB40's Red Red Wine, Chris de Burgh's Lady in Red... I'm sure there are loads!

Or how about a nice bottle of Ruby Port?

  • When my parents-in-law celebrated their ruby wedding last year, my sister-in-law made up a box for them which contained 40 red things - red wine, candles, soap, strawberry jam, turkish delight etc. Made our present of theatre tokens look very boring!

Oops - edited to say I didn't read right to the end of your original post and see you've already thought of the 40 red things idea - sorry!

  • oooh yes - I need ideas for my parents ruby wedding as well this year.

I am hoping to get them to London for a long weekend as they went there on honeymoon.

Any idea where I can get old newspapers of certain dates etc?

Thanks for these ideas - hadn't thought of the "red/ruby" song titles...like that one...! Will definitely use the website to see what was around each year on the specific dates (hope they're good ones! ;)).

Am also going to give some thought to the scrapbook - I'm not very crafty/creative, but I'm certain that it would be well received so may have to do a bit of digging around to find photos and give it my best shot!

Thanks also for the red ideas - quite fancy the strawberry jam!! :p

Any further ideas also welcome... :D

  • :TAlot of folk got married in 1968 didn't they !! My parents are celebrating their 40th in June too.

I've started to look around for photographs of my parents through the years then I'm going to get them put into a memory book using snapfish as I don't think I'm creative enough to do it myself.

Any more ideas would be very welcome as I'm stuck now...........:D

One thing that looks great but doesn't cost much is a framed copy of the record which was at No.1 at the time. There are companies who do this but you can do it yourself by looking it up, buying the record (Ebay is good for this) and framing it.

It's my parents 40th next month but as I do this present for other friends/relations (and they know how little it costs!) then I can't get away with it for them.

What about a really good quality ruby port (if they like port!)

I have absolutely no idea how much this would cost but it was the first thing that jumped into my head - does it show that I am trying to lose weight and am abstaining from alcohol this month :rotfl:
  • For the sense of humour set of parents, how about a pun on Ruby Slippers - buy some cheap bog standard slippers and decorate them with glitter glue or sequins :p
