Useless Chatbots

Just tried using Cora (Ulster banks chatbot) to ask what I thought was a straightforward question.

"where can i find which issue of limited edition saver i have"

Answer

"I can see that you have an error message when trying to login to your Anytime Internet Banking. Which of the options below best describes the issue you are having with your Anytime Internet Banking?"

Who programs this rubbish.😶

One of the banks I used the chatbot on today stupidly invited me to complete a survey after closing the bot down.

"How can we improve the service you used today?", it asked.

"Get rid of the Chatbot!", I replied.

    😀

I had the misfortune to need to ring Barclaycard. The chatbot was worse than useless and I spent 20 minutes waiting for a human. I was looking forward to giving scathing feedback - but they didn't ask!

I suspect that when a caller has had to wait a long time, they will not be asked for feedback.

No-one! This is what Artificial (non-)Intelligence works out for itself.

You'd be better off asking that question on chatgpt or similar

  • Cora is particularly bad, the Santander one isn't too great either.

I try to avoid them but if you want to speak to a human you need to go through this charade first.

You would, but the reason banks constrain their own AI efforts to a bunch of preset Q&A is that an unconstrained AI would have a tendency to make something up if it didn't find reliable information to answer the question.

    You mean Almost Intelligent?

I've found that one service I use will put you through to the wait for a human if you just type human into the chat box when it asks "How can I help you today?" Repeat it if it asks you to describe your issue or what department you want etc.

Some say that when you're asked to press 1 for this or 2 for that etc. you should press nothing and a human will answer.

When I tried that, the robot dropped the call.

I used to find Sandi a bit irritating, but at least I always managed to get it to do what I wanted. Eventually. Then I met Cora. Went round in circles for about an hour last week.

I wish they wouldn't give them cute names. They are not cute.

Mind you, speaking to a human isn't much better. I've had trouble with both HSBC and NatWest in the last week, neither of them had a clue how to answer my fairly simple queries. 2.5 hours of my time.

First thing I usually ask a chatbot is ‘I want to speak to a human’…….usually has the desired effect.
