Land Rover Evoque - ticking time bomb for an engine problem (often a day after the warranty expires) and unfortunately yours has gone off.

Please check reliability tables before spending hard earned money on vehicles. Land Rovers don't come bottom because they are brilliant.

Two services in three years sounds light, but is that within the service interval schedule?

Or is it that it was about to have its third annual service before the failure happened?

If the bin lorry had not hit your car, what would you be doing with it?

For example, would you have it transported to a garage to have the engine assessed, and get quotes for repairs?

If so, can it still be transported to a garage to have the engine assessed, and get quotes for repairs - or is the bodywork too badly damaged?

Once you have the quotes, you could decide your next steps.

Alternatively, you could ask the insurers if they will pay you a cash settlement, instead of repairing the car.

(Depending on your mindset, you might even be able to make a 'profit' doing that - for example, by taking the money from the insurers and then taking the car to a 'cheap and cheerful' bodyshop, who might fit second-hand body panels sourced from a breaker's yard.)

Are you saying that the mechanic and the LA are paying for the repairs caused by the bin lorry?

Are you saying that the mechanic and the LA are paying for the repairs caused by the bin lorry?

No, that's not what they're saying. The post you've quoted contains answers to two separate questions.

    Question one:

Were the services performed by a JLR workshop?

    Answer:

    no our local mechanic

    Question two:

Why is the Local Council not covering the damage their bin lorry did to the car?

    Answer:

the council will pay for the damage they have done but the approved garage won't have it on site until the engine is fixed

I was asking a question to what the OP wrote and as they never quoted any other posts that's why I asked.

Thank you for clarifying things though.

Thanks all my post really was to question if 3 years of us having it warrants having to possibly pay for a new engine. Yes our mechanic will collect and assess the engine I was just worried about having to pay possibly 5000 for a new engine then the insurance writing the car off due to the damage by the bin men .

Before fixing the engine, the mechanic might be able to give a guide as to the likely cost of the bodywork repairs and how probable the car being written off is.

Depending on make of engine needed but it should be no more than £5k fitted if you search inter web for prices.

OP have you tried to find out what price your car is worth now by an online price checker?

That may give you an idea on wether it's worth spending money considering you still have over a year HP to pay off.
