I've just tallied up my groceries for the last year and it averages £25 a week.

This is really a separate topic. Investing your savings better doesn't change the fact that your current lifestyle is unsustainable for your income and monthly cashflow.
Yes your mortgage may be cheaper than the rent, but if in the same area / type of property then there won't be much in it once you consider lost interest / investment return.
For your monthly cash flow, you still need to:
- increase income (either take overtime or develop skills to seek a higher paying job); and
- reduce housing cost (move to a cheaper area, take in a lodger, move into a house share); and
- reduce food cost (cook from home in batches, not ready meals and takeaways).
