Santander £240 switch offer (01/09/2026 to 07/10/2026)
Santander have launched a new switch offer.
What you need to do:
This offer is for the Everyday Current Account only and you must request your switch on or before 7th October 2026. T&Cs.
Within 60 days of your switch request, you must:
+ Complete your switch (while the blurb says to open an Everyday Current Account, the T&Cs state that you can switch to a new or existing Everyday Current Account),
+ Have 2 active Direct Debits set up on your Everyday Current Account. Your 2 Direct Debits must be from the household Direct Debit list,
+ Deposit £1,500 to your Everyday Current Account (can be done in smaller amounts over the 60 days),
+ Deposit at least £200 into a new or existing Regular Saver Account.
+ You must not have held a current account with Santander on 1st January 2026.
+ You must not have previously received an incentive payment to switch to a Santander current account.
The T&Cs have now been added to the switching offers archive for future reference.

Great for switching newbies, not a lot of good for most of us though🙄

Strange that the TV licence does not appear as a household direct debit. 🤔

Are there any easy (cheap) 'household bills' that can be set up from their list?
I have all my direct debits coming out of a shared account with the Mrs.

This always crops up since they changed the DD requirements. The list is a mess. Full of companies that have been dissolved, some for more than a decade. There are also companies listed on it that do not operate in the UK!

Would a couple of SIM-only mobile phone plans be OK?
Looks like you'd need to pay for them for 3 months total. 1 month for the donor account and 2 months for Santander before receiving the bonus and cancelling the direct debits.
Cheapest SIM-only plans from their list of acceptable providers are about £6 per month. So 2 of them for 3 months. £36 in total.

winkowinko Looks like you'd need to pay for them for 3 months total. 1 month for the donor account and 2 months for Santander before receiving the bonus and cancelling the direct debits.
The DDs just need to be set up on the account when they assess it. So 60 days after submitting your switch request. They just need to be active, not paid. A Direct Debit becomes active 3 working days after the company taking the DD (e.g. a utility company from the list) submits the DD mandate to your bank.
So you could have them set up and not have to pay anything, if you can set them up close (but not too close) to the 60 days and then cancel them after you get your bonus. Of course, many of these companies, e.g. mobile providers may need you to sign up to a contract, but if you can find a couple that don't, then you can do it without it costing you anything.

Thanks for that. I've spotted a couple of 30-day mobile contracts with IDMobile and Talkmobile.

My 30-day Talkmobile SIMO uses CPA-style card payment, not DD. YMMV though.

Just to be clear.....do the direct debits need to be active on the account you are switching from?
OR....can you set up the DD's on the Santander account once it is opened?
