Selling/Posting ornaments (pottery, glass)

I have some ornamental items (vases, glass and porcelain ornaments) that I want to sell but unsure how to post them and avoid damage etc A car boot sale event is probably the easiest way but in the case of the pottery items for example, these are somewhat collectable items and there are dedicated FB groups hence thought it might be better to try selling via those forums and of course eBay. I have never used eBay previously hence my rather basic questions.

Just wondering how others have approached this if selling similar items?

i sell a lot of breakables and it’s all in the packing. Loads of bubble wrap, strong packing paper and good boxes. I have to be confident it can be dropped from waist height onto a concrete floor.

China glass and ceramics is a hard sell though , a lot of glass I now just take to a charity shop and I’m careful to check whether the rest is actually worth selling or not.

A lot of people who sell fragile items swear by box within a box.

Wrap the item carefully , lots of bubble wrap - Buy a role its not expensive, then put it in a box.

Then put that box in a box and put padding around it.

If you have a stock, and depending on the size of the object, I found when moving that my ladies knee-high stocking socks were very useful as a first stage - I wrapped the object in a lot of paper towel, then slipped a sock over it, folded it over and tucked it in to hold it firmly in place. Then packed them together tightly in a box with extra bubble wrap or polystyrene beans to fill the gaps.

Thanks all, appreciate the useful tips. The box within the box I like and recall using a similar approach many years back when posting a watch that I was selling. The vases should I theory be fairly easy to wrap and protect. The porcelain statues are tricky and I may just give those to charity as think more risk with thinner parts such as arms or legs breaking off during postage etc.

Some good ideas posted, but remember the bigger the box, the more postage the buyer will have to pay, so depends on the value of what you are selling.

To be honest up to 60cm x 45cm is allowed on the likes of evri and inpost. Of course if the statues are almost that size you have less headroom for extra packaging....

I buy a lot of glass and the best packing is always a box within a box with good padding around the glass then padding around the box. The padding around the box can just be screwed up paper the idea is to create a void between the 2 boxes.

You could always try collection only first and see how that goes, if they are sought after this might work.

I agree with all the previous recommendations of bubble wrap and boxes.......the only thing I would add is DON'T use courier services or man with a van to deliver unless it's at the buyers risk.
