Thanks for the advice regarding Hsbc.

I hold zero investments a the moment, I have £85,000 in the cash isa which could be invested but would prefer to drip feed it in over time.

I have had investments in the past which did not work out well. The Neil Woodford fund and individual stocks which both resulted in big losses which put me off.

My business is mainly property based but I need to diversify. Pension not an option at the moments as i can only invest £3500 a year as no earned income.

I transferred half that amount last year into S&S ISA on the iWeb platform now Scottish Widows share dealing paid £5 to buy but as mentioned it’s now possible to avoid. Incidentally I went for HSBC FTSE all world index c, I’m about to got VALL this time round.

I use Fidelity and vanguard whom I find very easy platforms to use.

My own view is that for ISA's you can use one of the cheaper platforms, but for pensions I prefer a more full service platform ( like Fidelity for example) ,especially when you are at the stage of starting withdrawals.

In any case the low cost platforms in general charge extra for pensions, and/or have restrictive withdrawal options- with a couple of exceptions.
