Afternoon all,

We have just had the long promised downpour! Short and sharp but definitely rain. Luckily DH and I went to the allotment first thing so were back before the rain. I had brought the washing in when we got back as there were a few threatening drops and the washing was dry anyway. I have prepped some beans for freezing, filled the fridge with spinach, chard and a couple of small cabbages, and the fruit bowl has the first of the apples and some plums. I am feeling that this may be the weekend for a plum crumble and custard 😉. Spice jars refilled, which is my flying contribution for today. Every little….

Yesterday I was the DiYer’s (reluctant) mate. Another silver lining as I ended up giving the LR a good clean afterwards. So this week it is the hall and stairs that have escaped. Oh and the spare room as I decided to faff about with some dressmaking material yesterday.

Mr M due to deliver in about an hour. This has completely thrown me as I usually have shopping on a Thursday and not on a Friday. Consequently I have no idea what day of the week it is 🙄

No idea how to get rid of a random unwanted bullet. Let's just hope that's the one with my name on it, so I can stop bothering to worry.

It's not been much of a Flying week, tbh, which is why I haven't posted yet again. I've washed up etc etc, done laundry and got it all line-dried, but actually knuckling down and dusting hasn't really happened because I've spent all my available time and energy planning and now prepping lunch for 22 on Sunday. Monday was spent with a pile of cookery books and a spreadsheet so I could go shopping yesterday with a very carefully constructed list, Tuesday I did outdoor Flying, scrubbing the bird pooh off our two garden benches, raking up all the leaves and giving some very bedraggled tomato plants some tlc, Wednesday getting all the spare plates and serving dishes down from the attic and running them through the dishwasher and/or sink as appropriate, slow cooking the chickpeas etc and this morning I started on the actual cooking. The coleslaw is made, the strawberries that we weren't going to have time to eat were microwaved with some Nancy Birtwhistle strawberry syrup (delish, and virtually free!) and making Delia's veg stock. I've also cobbled together some extra fridge space with some iceblocks and a coolbox. I had hoped one of the chaps would rake up the leaves but apparently not. Can't play croquet on our bumpy lawn if it's full of dead leaves.

This morning I also made this recipe and I have to say it was fantastically well worth the few minutes each stage takes. I always avoided high hydration bread doughs but the way he's put this focaccia together is an absolute gift. Since we got the breadmaker in 2012 I find commerically made bread tastes really horrible and I needed this style bread for a panzanella salad. We hacked off a hunk after it came out of the oven for lunch and it was absolutely delish with a hunk of cheese homegrown tomatoes and a few basil leaves. That one's a keeper and highly recommended.

Hoping for the weather on Sunday to be like today, when rain is forecast but it doesn't really materialize. I certainly don't want any more thunder after Wednesday night, when Wren managed to destroy two lightening cables scrabbling to get into the corner of the bedroom. I found a huge cardboard box in the attic which I've converted into a soft crate for her which she loves, but that wasn't enough to sooth her soul with the lightening and thunder rumbles. I put her thunder shirt on her (thanks DizzyImp) last night and she slept right through the night which we both badly needed.

Afternoon all. Greengage jam has set beautifully; jelly hasn't so need to reboil. Took the Aged P to Mr M then helped him unpack and have emptied a shelf of dry goods (pasta etc) which is OOD and which he doesn't use anyway to give him an extra shelf to store canned goods on.

Evening all.

Only basic flying done this week, but the house is mostly tidy, kitchen and bathrooms have been well scrubbed, laundry is up to date, and all dry laundry has been either FUPA or FULTDH (folded up, left to DH to PA).

I've made and labelled another batch each of apricot jam and orange marmalade. and made a bit of progress with scanning the old family photos that DH brought back from his cousins on Tuesday.

I have found locally, bought and wrapped two unique pieces of jewellery for DD - 50 on Sunday - which I hope she will love, and if she doesn't I will have them back for myself!

Rosie is happier now that the weather is cooler. L took her out for her walk today and will look after her all day tomorrow while we're off to the lunch party to celebrate DD's birthday with DS-i-L, DGS1+2 and DS1&Co.

Hope the weather doesn't spoil anyone's Bank Holiday plans xxx

Lazy morning here. Lie in then dog walk, dailies and first of two wash loads is in machine. Weather permitting am meeting with friends this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon. Right, let's do some puzzling.

Afternoon all. Only breakfast and dinner along with associated clearing up done here today but I have done housework through the week.We have had a good bit of steady rain today and just had a couple of thunderclaps although I didn't see any lightning. Maybe later. This is going to be a long day.

Because of heavy rain making driving conditions on the motorways very difficult it took us 1hr 45min to drive to the family lunch meeting point yesterday, rather than the 1hr 6min predicted by googly maps, so I'm glad I had allowed extra time and left half an hour earlier than originally planned! DS2&Co had had to decline the invitation because of distance and time constraints, but the other 10 of us had a great time, and DS2 joined in with WA messages and banter. DD loved her pendant that was her gift from me and DH, but left her other present (just from me) to open this morning, her actual birthday. DGS1 is looking forward to starting Bath university in a few weeks' time - his eyes lit up when I said we would visit and bring coffee cake! - and DGS2 has happily decluttered all his revision aids for GCSE subjects that he is not taking at A-level and passed them on to DGD1 😆

I made more jam and marmalade on Friday so must go and pack my trolley to take it all to church this morning.

The sun is shining here and the lawn is greening up nicely. Hope everyone else gets at least a glimpse of sunshine today xxx

Morning all,

Yesterday we had much needed steady rain for much of the day. Not torrential downpours, and no sign of any thunderstorms but a steady light rain. The garden has sucked it up and there are tufts of green on the lawn. Due to inclement weather, flying had to be abandoned 😉 in favour of an indulgent dressmaking afternoon. Today is bright and sunny, so I ought to Make An Effort and maybe go into the garden as it’s green bin collection next week and still space to fill. As a flying contribution I have s&s the bathroom and downstairs loo. First job is to prep a stack of ripe plums. Apparently the main jam eater of the house says we have enough in store so today’s will be stewed with cinnamon and frozen.

I was given a washing up bowl almost full of damsons yesterday;having learned from experience how hard it is to find the stones in damson jam I have made jelly - there was so much juice I have had to do two batches, one after the other so I have done that and I have 'piped' cream onto the key lime pie which has chilled overnight in the fridge per recipe instructions. Piping is a LOT harder than it looks. Veggies prepped for dinner (at tea time) so now it's a mad tidy round. Caluli leaves and carrot peelings delivered to starving bunnies

Using a few 10 minute bursts to wrap up this week and get ahead for next week.

Budgets already for September. There will be 1 more spend at football tomorrow and then I can finalise any underspends. Bedlinen changed. Cleaned all our placemats - we have 3 sets of 8 placemats and I've no idea why. Anyone they are sorted, cleaned and I've swopped to my more autumnal set.

Sorted out the fruit bowl and chopped up a melon and a mango so that they don't get wasted.

Inside of the fridge cleaned and tidied. Some v out of date cake spread thrown away and the last 2 eggs hard boiled for lunch as they go out of date tomorrow.

Cat's feeding station thoroughly cleaned. The remnants of food in his bowl get v stinky v quickly so we are giving him half a pouch at a time which is not impressing him at all.
