Their pricing offers are all over the place, ditched Aldi / Lidl price matching but still kind of doing it but you'd never know by looking at the shelf labels, rollbacks, Asda prices, it's a mess.

We don't have one near us so only go in a few times a year, mainly for the men's clothing (formal shirts, trousers and jackets) .

Their flavoured meat (pork loin steaks etc) has often tempted us, but we've never bought any as a pack size of six would be too much for the two of us.

Their frozen black forest gateau is always a guilty treat, however…..

i used to shop in the West Bridgford one when at uni 30 years ago and it was amazing. Fresh curry counter, fresh pizza counter and great value good quality food.

Now my nearest one is Beddington (added aroma of sewage treatment works and incinerator) and it is beyond awful. Shelves that look full but you realise actually no choice (ie whole laundry aisle is mainly all persil non bio), v little basics/value, no organic/free range chicken at all. And the 'reward' McDonald's at the check out isn't much better.

Add in the staff blocking the aisles doing the online shopping and we only go there in emergencies or if we need the very good value opticians.

Good point. Forgot about their opticians. Don't think they are in every branch but my experience with them has been very satisfactory.

The last time I shopped in Asda was on a work trip to Bournemouth (I had an hour to kill waiting for the train home, and it's right next to the station). It's the only time I've ever felt physically unsafe in a supermarket. Once you've eventually located the one street-level entrance that hasn't been boarded up and triple locked, you have to make your way through a huge and dingy car park (with evidence of some interesting after-hours activities) to a creaking travelator that takes several minutes to get you up to store-level. After more security gates than you'd find in the average regional airport you can eventually enter, but once you've witnessed the behaviour of some of the customers you will wonder why they bothered to install them.

On the whole I didn't think it was much cheaper than elsewhere - there are more cheap brands and fewer expensive ones, which gives the impression of economy, but if you compare the same product with other stores there's very little in it. There were a handful of incredible bargains in the mix, which I imagine you would learn to pick out if you were brave enough to shop there regularly (or very keen on YouTube!)

Thanks for this shame the naysayers have moved in. Don't be down hearted. I like my local shop. Did go through a bad period with shoplifting as many have but they seem to have turned this around.

it’s a shame you see it as naysayers rather than others sharing their experience of something that was once good now not being so. It would be helpful if your local store is still good to share where ish it is to help people

Some of us have different experiences to you, that doesn't make us naysayers it just means we aren't as positive as you about a particular shop.

I 'personally' think it is the worst of all the supermarkets I have access to, that is my opinion on my own experience . Add to that the fact that when you attempt to contact head office about pricing errors, poor staff or constantly being overcharged for items and having to queue for CS to get a refund and head office never ever bother replying , I think Asda have a serious issue somewhere.

Another vote for the opticians but if it weren't for them I wouldn't visit although I sometimes do a spin whilst I'm waiting. I don't get more than a few random bits. It's just a generally depressing place with a lot of the faults others have highlighted.

If anybody from Asda management are reading this thread they should be seriously concerned, but they probably already are!

We do our main shopping online at TESCO. We only use Asda, Lidl & Iceland for items we have difficulty getting elsewhere. Wouldn't dream of doing a main shop at Asda and certainly not online. Tried it once and it was an awfull experience.
