As I can see there is no thread for people who shop at Asda. It's the gem we don't tell people about? IYKYK? A fruit and veg aisle to die for! Kimchi? Steak? Cordial? Asda has it all and more. They've been hit by the recent proce surges of course but a weekly shop here is very reasonable.

Our local shop also has a parcel counter that is quite the place to see and be seen. Right by the Krispy Cremes and the pharmacy counter.

I propose a thread on the best of Asda with recipes as well.

My top tip for today - George! As long as you get something good quality you are laughing. I have a lovely black Racer back vest that I wear under work clothes. They also sell those 10 kilo bags of rice if you like rice.

I cannot agree, the heyday of Asda is well over and it is going into serious decline since the brothers got their hands on it!

My local shop is a Asda, small one, which is fine for bits but ive stopped scanning the Rewards app on every single occasion now as it just seems pointless. None of the offers are ever relevant now.

I only use the on line shopping due to my health / walking difficulties, so cannot comment on the physical store.

I agree with the Rewards, a waste of time for me, so I don't bother with it, despite that i still have clocked up over £6 so somehow it works despite my indifference

Being only on line the fresh /chilled foods are variable, mostly OK but I always have to check meat / fish dates on delivery, despite supposed to have min three days shelf life left I do find that some that have the following day as BBE. I send them back of course but it demonstrates lack of care by them.

That said, I find the staff I encounter to be friendly & helpful, and so far have not had any request for a refund refused.

I can't stand Asda and my local isn't a big one and they force you to use the self scan checkouts which I hate with a passion. There's a YouTube channel called the cost of living crisis he puts videos on with really good bargains from Asda but you need the scanner to see them IE the shelf price is £1:20 he scans it and it comes up as 35p ? What's the point of that ?

Sounds like an over-dedicated bargain hunter to me. If he factored in his time including research at the minimum wage his hauls won't be a great bargain at all.

I’m lucky in that I have a choice of local supermarkets I can walk to , Asda being the closest so I tend to use it for small daily shops. However it is the absolute worst supermarket from my own experience.

Shelf edge prices vary wildly from that charged at till and no one cares, week after week the same items have prices that remain wrong. I use self scanner, although they rarely bother replacing the hand held scanners after use, leaving them all over the floor and edges in self scanner checkout so I use my phone . I ask for assistance, sometimes someone may deign to look at me, other times they walk away. Some weeks back I was actually showing one member of staff the item price on the screen compared to the shelf edge prices (I take photos) and half way through they walked away, when another member of staff came over I complained about the first staff member walking away and was told ‘it was their break time’. Incidentally I know I have no right to the pay the shelf edge price but I always ask politely especially if the shelf edge price has been wrong for weeks. If they decline, which they did once, I leave the item behind.

The wrong prices even include own products with offers printed on them . 2 meat products marked £4 or any 2 for £7 - went through the till at £8. When I eventually got a staff member to talk to me they said one of the items wasn’t included, even though the admitted both were marked up as being in the offer. That was one they wouldn’t readjust the till price. Next week same thing happened but that time they did manually over ride to give me the £7 offer as a ‘goodwill’ gesture.

I have complained to head office, they don’t even bother responding .

I'm not sure that the minimum wage comparison is relevant.

For example, on a random Saturday morning, most people don't have this choice:

• 1) I could spend one hour researching youtube videos for bargains, and one hour shopping at Asda
• or 2) I could find work for 2 hours that would pay £12.71 per hour

Most work doesn't have that flexibility.

For many, on a random 2 hour period on a Saturday morning, the choice might be more like:

• a) I could spend one hour researching youtube videos for bargains, and one hour shopping at Asda
• or b) I could go for a walk for 2 hours
• or c) I could watch TV for 2 hours
• or d) I could do gardening for 2 hours

(maybe because friends and family are busy doing other things for those 2 hours.)

Some people might genuinely prefer spending 2 hours doing option a), but others might prefer another option.

Or are you talking about the person who actually makes the youtube videos?

If so, that person will probably be making the videos as a business. They will be making an income (or hoping to make an income) from youtube, as a result of people watching the video.

I am another one who avoids shopping at Asda. We thought we would try it out a few months ago never again. Half the shoppers were scoffing the food and you had to check items were not tampered with. Dark and dreary with a long queue at the one check out open with half the staff running about like headless chickens not achieving much. It was not a nice experience at all. Also the yellow sticker items were more expensive than the original price on spinach.

I have 2 local Asda stores. One is much as you described, with the addition of groups of schoolkids (no matter what time of day) roaming the aisles, being shadowed by security guards. Shares its dreary location on a "retail park" with a flat-roof pub, 2 bookies, 2 fried chicken shops and the biggest 2 storey Greggs I have ever seen.

The other is 2 miles away in a posh bit of town, car park full of SUVs. Pleasant enough place to shop, their fresh veg seems good value against Tesco/Waitrose. Only real change I've noticed since it was offloaded by Walmart is the alcohol-free adult drink range is woefully small.

I don't have an Asda near me but do pass a couple when out and about and sometimes pop in.

They are depressing places to shop.
