Rescheduled Flight: Do I Have EU261 Right To Care?
I've had my claim rejected by Wizz Air for the cost of hotel for three of us under the same booking.
Flight was Luton to Bratislava. Booked in December 2025, travelled mid-July 2026. In early January 2026, Wizz Air notified me to advise me the flight was rescheduled from the date we booked to the day before, still to Bratislava. That was the best option as they did not fly to anywhere else nearby such as Vienna on the date we originally booked for. Claiming our money back and paying for a similar timed flight would have exceeded the cost of the hotel on a per person basis.
The extra night for three of us in a 3* hotel in Bratislava was €262.95. I made the claim on behalf all three of us attaching the hotel invoice and two signed Power of Attorney forms.
Before I take it further with Aviation ADR, is this scenario covered by EU261 please?
Thanks.

I don't think this is covered under the duty of care rules.
Firstly, you had 6 or 7 months' notice of the change and could have taken the refund and made alternative arrangements.
Secondly, the duty of care is invoked in the case of a delay, but you arrived a day early which, by very definition, is not delay.

Unbelievable.

AIUI your only options, back in January, were to accept the change or have a refund.
#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3661 -
This was a flight rescheduling, with notice served 6-7 months in advance.
There is no duty of care rights under EU261/UK261 to cover your extra night hotel costs in these circumstances. The costs incurred are yours.
