What do you mean it was practically? Surely you get there, get told the room isnt ready yet so you let them put your suitcase in the storage room and go lounge by the pool or whatever it is you do on holiday for kicks… "living out of the suitcase" suggests you had 4-5 outfit changes to deal with each etc

I suspect most hotels dont have regular fires and so dont have a fixed protocol with a known timing to get rid of the smell. They may have been optomistic saying it would be ready by 10 but if it still smelt at that point they presumably thought it better to continue working on the problem than put you in a stinky room.

Its not clear how many free upgraded breakfasts you are getting, you dont say if its a 1 week, 2 week or 2 month stay. We dont do AI, conceptionally not a fan, certainly know most AI have some higher tier options that arent included or are included on a limited basis but dont recall any opening for breakfast. At the end of the day only you can judge how much you will appreciate the upgraded breakfast and if you feel its a reasonable offfer for the inconvenieince they have caused, though maybe temper it slightly if you have made your own mistakes in the handling of it. Maybe its enough, maybe rather than free breakfast upgrade every day you'd prefer one free dinner upgrade… doesnt have to be worth more financially, sometimes its just about what you appreciate more.

Probably the 10 am was the check out time at the one night hotel.

As for spending 5 hours in the lounge as he was AI he would at least spent over an hour having lunch in the dinning room.

I think the breakfast upgrade is nothing as being on AI.

I hope he just gets on with the holiday and has a good time.

Should have asked - was this a package deal with one of the major providers ?

If so, did you raise your issues with the hotel and/or the rep at the time - and what was the latter's response ?

That is always recommended where a problem occurs in such circumstances.

Thanks all for the responses.

IIt Was with Jet 2. Nobody was really interested, which is why we were a bit narked. Im not interested in sueing or demanding money back. Sometimes things happen out of anyone's control.

To try and simplify it, we were told our original hotel room would be ready at 10am. It wasnt.

There was nowhere to put the cases as the luggage room was rammed.

No showers available, as all rooms were full.

The excellence breakfast was for the remainder of the holiday. We didnt bother. It was the same food as the normal dining, you just got it brought to you.

We asked for a drinks upgrade ( all inclusive package but not all drinks where free :/ ) They couldn't do that.

Anyway, its done with. Its been a decent holiday after a not so smooth start. I just thought id reply to those who have taken time to respond
