Hotel fire
Good Afternoon all,
Any advice where we would stand on this
The Hotel we were due to stay at had a fire the night before we arrived.
When we arrived mid afternoon we were advised our alloted room smelt of smoke, so they put us up in a sister hotel for a night. It wasnt bad, not as well rated but a bit of an inconvenience. The following day, we got a free taxi to.our original Hotel. Being told it would be ready at 10am. It wasnt. We had to live out the suitcases another 5 hours, waiting in the lobby. Again, just an inconvenience but its not what we paid for. The holiday we paid for didnt really start until 15:00 the following day from arriving .
They've offered us breakfast all week in their 'excellence dining' but only breakfast, starting tomorrow (Friday) when out holiday should have started Tuesday. They want us to sign something if we agree to this.
Thanks for reading,
Thanks, Dave

Is there a question?

In exceptional circumstances after a fire then you either accept their goodwill offering or negotiate if you believe they should do more.
If you accept then signing to say you will not take further action seems reasonable."Living out of the suitcases" for 5 hours, come on, that's a ridiculous statement, couldn't you have done something else apart from waiting?
I am sure the hotel didn't want a fire but accidents happen and they seem to have taken care of you well with accommodation and transport.2 -
Another one here wondering why you didn’t just leave the cases at the hotel and go out for the day. Or use the swimming pool or whatever it is you like to do.
What is it that you think you should be offered instead?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have not could of.2 -
You seem to have been well looked after particularly as you were upgraded to have breakfast.
You could compare what other guests offered. The ones who were already into their stay would have had to move out for one night I guess.
You might wish to try a claim with your insurance provider.

Thanks for all the replies. The living out the suitcase thing was more to do with lack of showers etc. We was told the rooms would be ready but obviously weren't. If we k ew what we knew, we'd have stayed at the other place until our proper hotel was ready. Im happy with the offer tbh, but always worth asking the question.
Again, thanks for your time.

These are wholly exceptional unforeseen circumstances and it appears the hotel has attempted to make the best of a bad job.
Are you on self catering - the offer of free breakfast is a bit confusing otherwise ?

Before checking out of the alternative hotel, why didn't you ask the Reception there to confirm that the room would be ready at the original hotel?
Could you have used the facilities at the alternative hotel instead of the original hotel for the day?

They told us it was ready for 10am. When we got there, they didnt know anything about it. Suppose its just one of them things. Just dissapointing more than anything. It is what it is, I guess.

All inclusive. The breakfast offer is their excellence dining. That trendy bit you can go occasionally. Most hotels do it i think.

Excellence dining?
The butter comes in a dish rather than little foil-wrapped pats?
Fried AND scrambled eggs?
