Green energy levy change on billd

hi Qriz,
yes, that’s the exact point I mentioned, and outlined to Octopus.
My tariff (duration and rates) had not changed (i.e. I was on the same package). The details on the pdf bill vs on the info displayed on my profile when logged into the website showed my unit rates decreased slightly but my SCs had gone up.
This was not related to the later VAT changes, nor any changes to my package since.Nor is it related to the cost that month or VAT added. This is about the unit rates and SC rates on display.
Hope that clarifies.

@grbren Sorry, but no! That doesn't clarify anything. In particular, there's no suggestion that the recently-announced change in the VAT rate has had any effect on the figures you're complaining about. What would help us unravel your conundrum is, for each fuel, to see:
- The unit rate as shown on your bills for March and April;
- The unit rate as shown on your account pages on the website, again before and after 1 April if possible;
- The same four figures for the standing charge.
I think that's a total of 16 figures, which will hopefully not all be different.
What I expect is that:
- The unit rates on your bills will be a bit lower in April than they were in March, but the standing charges on your bills will be just the same.
- The unit rates you see on the website will be a bit lower in April than they were in March, but the standing charges shown will be just the same.
- If there is a difference between what you see on a bill and the corresponding figure from the website, that difference will be the 5% VAT.
If you show us the precise figures, we should be able to say whether my expectations were justified.
I'm not being lazy ... I'm just in energy-saving mode.

hi Lldhund,
maybe to make this all more concise. Are you saying there should or should not be a difference between the details shown on my website profile and the pdf version of the bill?
To my mind, the unit rates and SCs should be stated as exactly the same. Yes or no?0 -
and I mean, at any given point in time (not in relation to the situation I described, just in general).

You haven't shown the figures, which is not helping anyone. But look here - clearly VAT shown inclusive and exclusive, so yes they should be "different" at the same time they are "equal"

At the most basic level if the 'increase' you are seeing in the standing charge is 5% then you are just comparing VAT inclusive and VAT exclusive prices…

in general no, but only by vat 5%.
As debitcardmayhem post example
20.11 vat exclusive on bill x1.05 = 21.11 p vat inclusive on website
26.81x 1.05 = 28.15p at peak times
Rates on bills at likes of EOn and from that Octopus vat exclusive at many others too i suspect - but not all suppliers handle vat the same.
And you repeatedly state its not a question of vat.
But consistently refuse to provide actual figures - your failure to respond to a simple and repeated request means we cannot help you.

hi all,
ok I think I'll just put this one to rest now. My tariff is a fixed term and fixed rate one. Whenever I looked before, the information on my pdf bill and displayed on the website were always the same. Vat is added after consumption/use is totalled up. And what I'm talking about is not the monetary value on the bill, it's the stated rates per unit and for standing charges.
In other words, when I looked at my bill vs the website display just after April 1st, the unit rates displayed on the website vs the bill from before April 1st were different.
Key to this was that although the unit rates had gone down, and this was related to the change in the Green Levy, my standing charges rates had been increased. So, I was being charged less for usage but more for standing changes.
My understanding of the Green levy changes were that the unit rates were to go down and the standing charges were to stay the same. But, that's not what happened in my case, from what I can see.
So, my question to Octopus was, since I had not changed my tariff (and it's not a smart or flux type tariff), why had my standing charges been increased? They have not been able to answer that question.
I'm wondering if anyone else had had the same experience? And for the elimination of doubt, the person I spoke to in Octopus last April could see the discrepancy and was going to investigate it. They did not and have failed to come back to me on that. But they could see the issue.
Hope that's clear and if not, thanks for your comments anyway.0 -
@grbren you have never been prepared to name the 12 month fixed tariff you were on with Octopus. It is possible that there is somebody here on the same tariff who could say whether their standing charge changed in April or not. But as you didn't name your tariff, we won't know.

I don’t see what difference that makes? It’s a fixed term, fixed fee tariff. The levy reduction was meant to mean a lower unit rate and same SCs. That’s all my question was really.
Thanks for all the comments anyway.
