The Tesco one I bought toasts both sides.

However standard sliced bread sticks out of the top so that stays untoasted 🙄

    You aren't the only one.

I'd pay good money for a toaster which, when the crumb tray needs emptying, all the crumbs actually empty through the bottom. I usually spend half an hour shaking it trying in vain to get the last 'bits'.

I like seeded bread, which probably doesn't help. I don't empty it very often. Maybe that's my problem.

    Ugh, I feel your pain.

Had a well known brand for decades (err, Russell Hobbs perhaps), until it died, and replaced it with the newer "toasts faster" version. What a load of shizzle!

Yes, the toast popped up far quicker, but the bread had only a thin toasted layer, while the inside was just warm bread.

And what is it about toasters that still don't fit a full slice in.

Anyway, after reading reviews, I went with a Scoville toaster. Works perfectly. Extremely happy with it, and it was IRO £20.

    I have the 'cheapo' Dualit.

Never toasted properly from new and got worse with time so I decided to replace the elements but found that you can only do that on the pricier models not this one

From my experience I am loath to buy the more expensive Dualit and am considering a Kitchenaid which looks pretty good

I bought a Dualit two-slicer from JL last year (a replacement for one I gifted to a friend). Earlier this year the inside elements failed to heat / toast so I had only one side of toast. JL arranged a return to Dulalit as it was still under warranty. After three weeks away I received a brand new toaster - no idea why but pleased with customer service from them.

Buy cheap, buy twice always rattles around my brain when looking to purchase such electrical items.

We've got the 4 slice new gen classic from Dualit. Currently selling for about £225 (yikes!) but we paid about half that maybe ten years back - think it was from the Clarks Village discount shops.

Their long slice model is still a bit pricey but maybe if you save your pennies…..
