Toasters - a bit of a vent

Vent incoming…

Had anyone bought a toaster recently that actually toasts both sides of the bread properly?

I am on my third toaster in the last two years, previously I've bought 4 slice models, this time I thought I'd try a 2 slice, all different brands - in all of them the elements on the outside sides heat up and glow fine, but the ones either side of the middle are rubbish, about 1 in 3 glow slightly, the rest not at all. I have to toast one side of the bread, then turn it round and go again to properly toast the other side. After a while I lose the will and try a new model - the last one was the 'updated' model of the last good one I had (bought about 10 years ago), but sadly no joy :(

It's not the end of the world (obviously), just really irritating… if anyone can recommend a toaster that will toast both sides well and evenly, I'd be grateful to know

I've asked friends and family but theirs all have the same issue

TIA

Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

    Yes!

3-4 months ago we purchased a "George Home 4 slice toaster" a bit like this one (the same toaster comes in three or four different colour options) and we're entirely happy with it.

It's more moneysaving that a Dualit, too 😁

Our current toaster from John Lewis toasts both sides evenly. However ( mini vent coming) larger loaf slices do not fit into it, and I always have to cut one end off before slotting it in.

We have the lowest priced option from Dualit and its nearly symmetrical on the level of toasting on both sides

Same here. Dualit long slot Lite does the job well.

I've got an ancient Dualit toaster, about 30 years old

Replaced a couple of elements over the years but toasts well.

It could be, I bought a Dualit toaster nearly thirty years, my mum still has it, gets used pretty much daily, I think somewhat more expensive items that last a huge much longer are money saving.

    Thank you all :)

Lots of votes for Dualit, I do agree that a more expensive item that lasts longer than half a dozen cheaper items works out better value in the long run, but out of my price range at the moment sadly (although I will keep an eye out for a discount/sale) - I do need one that toasts long/wide slices so that eliminates the John Lewis one, but I will have a look at the George one next time I'm near an Asda - our closest is 40 minutes away and not in a direction I often go

I appreciate all the suggestions, at least I know they do still exist - I was starting to think that maybe, with the use of cheaper components, it was no longer possible to find one that toasted properly any more

Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

You get what you pay for with toasters. Another vote for Dualit. I can't even remember how old mine is as I've had it so long and it still toasts perfectly. The other thing to bear in mind is that Dualit toasters are repairable and you can get replacement elements for them which you can fit yourself, not that I've ever needed to

althogh the tricky bit is knowing if something is more expensive becasue its built to last or because of marketing BS
