liability insurance for a 16 year old
HI. My 16 year old daughter is booked to do henna tattoos at a local pub event and I want to get liability insurance for her. She's not being paid by the pub; just having a stall there and there is no fee so I don't think their insurance would cover her. Does anyone have any experience of this? Do I do it in my name and she's automatically covered as my child? Thanks

Sounds like she needs business insurance if she is receiving payment from customers.

You say the pub isnt paying her but are those having it done paying for it? If not why is she doing this? Is the intent to charge in the future or is it only being done to spread engagement in south asian culture and no one will ever be charged?
If there is any exchange of monies or plans for an exchange of monies you would probably need business insurance, as she is under 18 that will almost certainly need an adult to form a partnership with her and the adult to buy the insurance for the partnership, once monies start being paid then three self assessments would need to be done for the adult, the child and the partnership itself.
If its purely cultural/hobby with no intent to ever charge then check your home contents insurance, it would normally include a third party liability section as the occupiers and decent policies will cover a whole range of things you do in the home and outside as long as its not business related.

Henna can cause serious allergic reactions.
Will she be doing 24/48 hour test patches on 'customers' ?
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 3.24% of current retirement "pot" (as at end December 2025)2 -
Public liability insurance would be what you looking for, and maybe Professional Indemnity Insurance. I am not sure exactly how this would work as a 16 year is not allowed to work in a commercial tattoo shop? and there are restrictions about tattooing under 18 years too. I further wonder what the implications of doing free tattoos in a pub as a service would be.

Did you miss the bit about them being henna tattoos?

A 16 year old is a minor and therefore cannot legally enter into a contract (insurance).
IMO The pub should take out the insurance with the girl as an employee?

Really?!
What about motor insurance under 18?

That is ''necessary'' in law and allowed - IMO the scenario with the girl with tatoos is not.

Only the Third Party element is "necessary" by law.
Under 18s can still buy comprehensive cover. That's discretionary.
