Flight cancelled with a minimum 12 hour delay
Friend had flight cancelled while boarding. Delay will be minimum of 12 hours. The delay was cause by a mechanical fault with the plane. If he goes through this process and rebooks his flight will he no longer be entitled to compensation? Distance is 998KM and I belive he is entitled to £220 cash ( after a rearranged flight free of charge). Is there any other factors to consider. I have blocked out the QR codes just incase they are specifc to his flight (doubt they are) and page two is just steps to rebook on there website.

I would just tell your friend to follow the instructions that the airline has given so that a new flight can be obtained. Keep out of the compo discussion.
The QR codes will be generic.0 -
If the cancellation was within easyJet's control then compensation will be payable. But that can be claimed later.
Book a replacement flight as instructed via easyJet's app or website. Note that if there are no easyJet flights available in a reasonable time frame then your friend could ask to be rerouted on another airline of that suits better. (in practice easyJet won't arrange this, they'd have to book it themselves and claim back)

As above, rebooking doesn't revoke any rights to compensation - flight cancellations trigger three separate rights (rebooking/refund, care while waiting, and compensation where applicable), as explained in the regulations themselves and EasyJet's paraphrased summary:

Firstly, your friend should contact EJ, preferably in the manner they have asked, scanning the QR codes and using the app, and should try to get a same-day replacement flight. If EJ cannot offer that, s/he can exercise the right to re-routing: if any other airline would enable her to reach her destination on the same day, s/he should aks EJ to book it for her, and if they refuse or cannot be contacted he should buy the ticket himself and claim the fare from them. This is NOT a refund, but exercising the right to re-routing.
Secondly, compensation may be due depending on when your friend eventually reaches the destination on the original EJ ticket, and depending on the reason for the problem.0
