The PIR# is the number you would have been given when you reported the bag missing at PFO. PIR stands for Property Irregularity Report. The number is a mix of alphanumeric characters, typically 10 characters long, e.g. BHXBY12345

Did you complete a report with one of the grounds staff at PFO? Normally a handling desk in the arrivals hall. It is not typically something a holiday rep will do.

Once you have a PIR you can look for location updates and delivery information on the global WorldTracer system which airlines use to match passengers to bags.

The information you give for the PIR will not only aid the repatriation but importantly it tells them where you want the bag delivered to.

I've since learned what should have happened but having never been through this, we could only do as guided, along with everyone else

A member of staff waved us over to a tiny desk, where she proceeded to ask for name, contact number and the case id. A carbon copy was given to us and we were told to leave. TUI reps ushered us into waiting transport. No PIR number was logged

Update from TUI rep is that cases are still in Manchester and are looking at how they're going to get them over to Paphos. I'm guessing it's a logistical nightmare for them. Can't explain the air tag thing

There are 15 flights a week on that route, Jet2 run a service every day.

4 days to move 40-odd cases across a few flights seems not too much of a logistical nightmare to me, it's pretty much exactly what they do every day. Poor.

My daughter's bags went missing, not quite the same as we'd posted them as far cheaper than paying baggage charges on the 3 flights she was taking en route to Italy via Croatia (she was au pairing so having a holiday on the way out). Her bags eventually turned up about 5 days late, having been in Milan (her final destination) at least twice, and also to Rome & Turin as we could track them. After invoking the official complaints process, she got her fees refunded and a £20 goodwill voucher on top. The funny thing was, she'd had to buy some cheap charity shop clothes and rocked up at her new employer, who happened to be the chief finance officer for Gucci and extremely well presented :) As others have said, take medicines, underwear, swimwear and a change of clothes in hand luggage, then, although it's annoying, you don't have the hassle of immediately having to find a shop or pay silly prices at an airport. Good luck, they will turn up.

Not only do we pack half and half, but I also make sure that what I'm packing makes up wearable outfits so it doesn't look like we were dressed by Michael Portillo.

We have some very distinctive multicoloured suitcases, each with additional different coloured straps, and I take a photo of them as we check in, so there can be no doubt what needs to be found. They stand out a mile on the carousels in amongst everybody else's stuff. I make sure there's something, either a tag or piece of paper in an external pocket, that has our mobile phone numbers on it.
