huggies nappies at boots

Jellyhead, you're brave, planning a holiday for just after the baby is born lol! At the moment I can't envision much past getting through labour, then am mentally preparing myself to live in virtual twilight world of nappies, feeding, nappies, sleep deprivation, nappies, sick, poo, nappies.... but that's just because my sister told me that's what to expect...so I work on the principle that if I prepare for the worst, it won't be such a shock...and might even be better (haha!)
I didn't even know I was getting any more scans, as I asked about it at the 20-week scan & the midwife said no more unless there was any cause for concern. So I just thought I was having a routine ante-natal on Friday, but the consultant said they like to scan all IVF babies at about 28, 32 & 36 weeks...even if they don't suspect anything is wrong...because of the growth thing. Still, it was lovely to see my little boy again & they gave me some pics to show hubby...he was quite miffed that he'd missed it lol! But I shan't take too much notice of any 'predictions' re his birth weight.0 -
sasha, i might be thick but i don't understand why an IVF baby needs to be treated any differently to any other baby, surely once it's there it's the same as any other baby? am i just being dim? lol! it is lovely having extra scans. my extra growth scans were for a 'tiny' baby on the very bottom of the chart but the woman doing the scans was really nice and she keeps telling me there's nothing wrong and it's all just routine. when i developed PCOS and my weight shot up i stayed at a BMI of 30 which is just on the line for obese, so they would expect me to have a larger baby, that's why a 6lb baby is on the bottom of my scale even though no doctor would say a 6lb baby was anything to worry about. i haven't always been obese though and i was skinny when i had my first baby, he was on the small side too. as long as there's no diabetes i would expect someone who's always been large to have a large baby but because i was small when born and was always underweight as a child and teenager i wouldn't expect for me to have a large baby now just because i've gained weight. does that make sense? sometimes i feel a bit guilty about the extra fussing when i know my baby is perfectly healthy, the scan department is really busy and they don't think i need any scans but it is really nice - the third one was lovely, i saw his little face and the 4th one was in half term so spud came with me and was fascinated.
mum26 my baby is expected to weigh 6lb or maybe towards 7lbs and they tell me he's a tiddler lol! it's a good weight though i think, and especially for your twins. to get the £5 voucher you have to spend £25 and that excludes first formula milks but includes follow on milks i think (best to check instore first). also it says on the back of the voucher that you can't use it to purchase phone cards, stamps, vouchers, gift cards, prescriptions or infant milks up to 6 months. i assume that means you can use it to purchase follow on milks. it expires on thursday.
sasha this holiday is in wales, only a 2-3 hour journey and it was booked by my parents. i don't have to go on it if i don't want to, they will take spud with them and leave me at home with the baby. it's booked for 6 weeks after my due date so baby will be at least 4 weeks old i should think. it's a modern caravan with shower etc. and 3 bedrooms and entertainment for spud on-site, beach is 2 minutes walk. my first few weeks with spud were a blur of sleep deprivation, nappies and milk but i lived with my parents for a few weeks (i was single) and it was heaven when mum would take the baby after she'd had breakfast and let me get a bit of sleep. presumably she'll do the same with this one, so being on holiday will actually be more relaxing than being at home if that makes sense? my husband can't come, he has to work but mum and dad will help out with the baby. i was bottle feeding spud so mum could have him for a few hours and she'd be able to feed him. if i'm breastfeeding i'll have to get the hang of expressing etc. spud will have lots to do, my sister is going too with her boys so spud will have more fun than he would if he was just at home with me. in reality the baby will probably squawk all night and make everyone tired and grumpy (except my deaf step-sister, she says she doesn't mind because she won't hear him, so she'll be awake to cuddle him in the mornings) and i'll probably spend all of my time cleaning up sick in the caravan lol! luckily my parents have a motor home, useful for all the baby luggage although we can't travel in it because there are no seatbelts in the back, i'll be able to pack a fan to help keep baby cool.
i've really gone off topic, pregnant women are awful for that aren't they lol! yes, nappies, i'll get some more tomorrow. i could only see the economy packs in sizes 3, 4 and a bigger one (4+ i think?) so i don't think they do them for smaller nappies so no 200 extra points. i'll just see what's on offer then, it might not be huggies. i can use my £5 voucher, get another one and get the 500 baby points and perhaps 250 points from the machine. it will still be a good deal, especially if the nappies are on 3 for 2 because i won't have to actually spend as much as £25. i also just realised i'm going to need nappy sacks in the caravan for the dirty nappies lol!52% tight0 -

Well it's just precautionary as apparently babies resulting from IVF treatment have a tendency to be smaller & be born earlier, so they like to keep an extra eye on them, even if they appear OK. I don't know how the IVF treatment causes this to happen, though & I hadn't heard about it untill the consultant mentioned it on Friday. Mine's fine at the moment, though he's still breech...he likes to practice tapdancing on my bladder a lot lol!
Did my sainsbury's shopping online & topped it up to £70 with two economy packs of Huggies newborn size 2 (48 in a pack, normally 6.99 per pack, offer was buy 2 for £10.50) and a couple of Sainsbury's own brand newborn size 1 'carry' packs ready for hospital...2 for £3. So I got my free delivery & £10 off my shopping...so you could say the huggies were practically free.
So now I've got a couple of Pampers packs, couple of Sainsbury's own & some Huggies...plenty to experiment with & see which (if any) better than the others.0 -
i don't know if breech is any worse than being ceph (?) - head on the bladder is just as painful and feet in your lungs aren't too pleasant lol! mine was breech until 32 weeks and then he turned (it was a bit uncomfortable, he scrabbled at my side with his feet like a rabbit with its back paws, really funny). he engaged fully, very painful, then popped back out for a play and engaged again on friday. i don't know why the engaging hurts, the GP said it might be because i have endometriosis, don't know about that.
i was reading last night about how lots of babies are breech until the last few weeks, i hope yours turns around, if it's a smaller baby there's lots of room for playing around as my little roo is demonstrating
somebody asked today why i'm at the hospital antenatal every week instead of at the midwife and i really didn't know, it's all to do with baby being small i suppose, except that he isn't. it's nice that they're keeping an eye on things, i won't complain, the hospital is less of a walk anyhow! i don't really know why IVF babies would be different but at least it's nice having extra scans isn't it
about the nappies, those economy packs at boots only seem to come in size 3 or above. i bought size 4 today, they probably won't fir until he's a year old :rotfl:52% tight0 -

I definitely had economy pack size 2 from Boots. My boy started in size 4 when he was 7 months old and he's low on the weight charts, so I guess most babies move into size 4 at about 6 months? Only 6 months of storing them!!!! (She says as she bought size 5 when baby was in size 3 for exactly the same reasons!!!!!! In 4+ at the moment, so still a way to go yet.)Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

hmmm ... if he'll be in size 4 by the time he's 6 months perhaps i've been uneconomical buying so many packs of nappies - unless i use more disposables than i'd planned to (fewer washables), or he has constant diarrhoea i might have bought more than i need lol! ah well, maybe overnight every night, every trip to the in-laws etc. will use them up.52% tight0

Why not exchange them now? if you leave it until baby is the correct size, it's unlikely the shop will take them back. Swap the smaller nappies for bigger sizes as they stay in bigger sizes for longer as their growth slows down the bigger they get. My son whizzed through sizes 0-3, and has been on size 4 for the past 4 months...and will be for quite a long time as the weight span to use them is really big.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

good idea, i bet if i waited to see how big he got huggies would change their packaging and mine would too too 'old' to take back!52% tight0

jellyhead wrote:i'm not sure either, that's why i bought size 3 lol! as a rough guide i'd say 22 lbs at 12 months old, but that's just going on what the washable nappy websites say - you change from size one (up to 22lb) to size 2 nappies when they're around a year old.
oh how we wish that were true! Just moving junior Tide into 4+'s at 6 1/2 months old, everytime we have bought a bulk load of nappies in a deal we end up taking them back and exchanging as he suddenly switches, grows a bit much and they suddenly either get too small or a bit leaky. Also agree completely with jellyhead about the different shapes and sizes remark, we went through Pampers newborns and then the normal style up to size 3, then suddenly he seemed to be leaking a lot (the smaller size were too small round waist so couldn't do anything else) so now we switched to Huggies same size and they were fine for some reason. As someone else suggested, sometimes good to have a backup different make to try out if you do find one size or make leaks a lot. Think on his growth chart in the red clinic books he's around 75th percentile weight but 98th for height, so the shapes and sizes thing is probably quite true0 -
ok, my son, who will be 3 in September has tesco 4+ at night and they are still fine! 4+ are 20 -44lb, he is 2 1/2 stone so 35 lb, and they still do a size 5 and 6!! although weight wise he is in range for 4+, 5 and 6, you get more nappies per pack the lower the size. he is tall and skinny (unlike me ) and that still works for him.
incidentally used pampers and huggies when he was newborn as they did hold poo better, and tesco and asda since he was on solids as their boxes and carry packs always worked out better value then any branded offers.
number two due in december so am not quite clued up on what nappies are best for newborns this time round so this has been interesting reading.
good luck jellyhead and s@sha, i look forward to reading your posts post birth!!0
