Afternoon all. Washload done and dried today, finished the bedding and some clothes. Bath towels tomorrow. Went out with DD2 and her dog and the dog she is looking after at present. Came home and got the washing in and put it away and then we went out for lunch, unexpectedly. I was too tired really but I don't often get the offer so I wasn't going to refuse. Just been in the garden deadheading. Asked DH to get the hanging basket down next time he moves. It's not looking great so I will sit it in a corner and deadhead it and let it live the rest of its days out quietly. It was glorious for a few weeks. The solar light can go on the hook instead.
Not planning anything else, just the usual meals, washing up, wiping round etc.
Hope everyone's OK x

I've had a lovely day out with W, my 12yo goddaughter. We went to the Mechanical Art & Design MAD Museum in Stratford-upon-Avon. Most importantly, W loved it. It's not a big museum - it occupies a space above the L-land shop just down the road from Shakespeare's birthplace - but it is packed with mechanical toys that you mostly activate by passing your hand over a light sensor; a few have handles that you turn, and there's a whole hands-on section where you can build marble mazes etc. Great fun! They have a small shop area with a wide range of good-quality toys and build-your-own automata kits: they send orders by post, but it's a good excuse for me to go back there and buy Christmas presents for my grandchildren🤣 (Narc0, they even have a drummer kit!) And the museum is a fully accessible with a lift and a disabled toilet. I could hardly believe how much they had fitted into the space, but it took us almost an hour and a half to look at all the exhibits. Highly recommended. We also went to the butterfly farm, which was fine but less exciting.
The worst parts of our day were the train journeys, as the other end of the line is in our area and the wildfire melted a stretch of the fibre-optic signalling cable. Understandably, the work of replacing the cables is slow (several hundred microscopic connections at each end), so a whole section of line is out of service and half of the trains that are left have been cancelled. Despite this, we had a brilliant day. With L the dog walker's help, DH and Rosie coped well, though Rosie was very pleased to see me when I got home at 7pm and insisted on helping me clear the last of the meatballs from my evening meal.
In other Flying, my time has been limited to making my bed, S&S'ing the bathroom and kitchen, and starting the DW. But that's good enough 😉
Now DH says he wants to have a day out tomorrow, so it looks as though I shall be driving the 3 of us to a castle on the Welsh border for lunch 😊

I had a busy day on Friday but managed to finish off the redcurrant jelly - two and a half jars but it has set and looks beautiful. Busy helping DS sort his new car (I now have a debtor;)) and getting ready for the crafters market tomorrow

Ionafan, are you thinking of Bossy Moo? Around the time she stopped posting she said she was going to do a counseling course and needed to focus on that. I think of her often, and although we haven't lit a candle for Absent Friends for a while it was her that started that habit for us. I hope she's doing well and has found love again.
Wednesday didn't go quite as well as we'd hoped, and Belovéd is waiting for yet another scan. They don't think it's anything to worry about but they want to know what's happening in another area just in case it impacts his treatment. There's a cut off age of 70 or 75, can't remember which, for MRI scans, and if he'd had one in the first place we wouldn't have had all these waits. I think this is his fourth! What we've now been told, which contradicts what we were told at the last consult, is that his treatment will take nine months, so that changes some of our thinking but not in a negative way, it's just a different timescale than we were initially told. Some things didn't fit together in the plans for his care and we were told 'there have been some changes made around here' at Wednesday's (excellent) appointment and I think we need to be much more proactive about chasing things. I've always had my doubts about physician's associates and I'd rather not have to be dependent on one again. Give me a specialist nurse any day. Belovéd has gone off to the sports/fitness club we used to be members of this afternoon as he (and I) get complimentary membership while he's under the care of the Oncology Unit. We'll probably both swim a couple of times a week while this lasts.
So today I thought I'd knock off a few of those 'That needs doing' and 'I must do that' jobs and have knackered myself:
- Milton-ing my water bladder because twice when I've been on Dartmoor lately and I haven't carried enough water and the water bladder has been in the attic unused for a couple of years. It's time it was pressed back into service;
- scrubbed out all four bird water dishes, Milton'd them, scrubbed the rocks in them, rinsed everything and refilled them with clean water;
- tied up the volunteer tomato plants in the front garden that are sharing their roots with a pear tree and some alstramarias (sp?) - I can never hoick out a volunteer because I admire their tenacity so much;
- picked some tomatoes to give to our elderly neighbour because the plants are attached to her railings and she's been watering them for weeks and her son's making us all kabobs tonight as his birthday dinner for us neighbours;
- swish and swiped the bathroom;
- cleaned the shower room;
- stripped the last of the chicken and frozen most of it;
- realised the cat that hasn't eaten anything since Thursday evening was ravenous for proper chicken - nothing else will do - so he's now got something in his tummy so may not need a trip to the vet on Monday after all;
- scrubbed the two garden benches that were covered in bird pooh, ready for next Sunday's croquet;
- rescued the temporary pop up greenhouse from the communal garden and stashed it in the yard out of the way until it starts raining and I can do a bit of reseeding again;
- filled, ran and unloaded the dishwasher;
- washed and pegged out two loads of laundry;
- cut up the cod to freeze for a fish pie for Tuesday night, possibly Monday after all, as I discovered we are at last out of freezer chipolatas and sausages. They've been The Magic Pudding of the freezer for the past six months. I did find a couple of burgers so we may have those on Monday instead;
- trundled Wren, and let her wander about in the garden while I was working out there.
I should have posted sooner this week, but Wednesday threw me, Thursday was volunteering day and I needed to go into town afterwards to do some non--supermarket shopping and I was trying to catch up on stuff at my desk yesterday but there were so many interruptions I didn't manage to clear very much, although Wren did get a trip to the groomers and now looks a lot better. Flying is taking a serious back seat at the moment but I've realised that the standard I set for myself is completely unrealistic and frankly no-one cares much about a bit of dust unless we have paying guests so I'm letting myself off the hook a bit.
ETA: Thank you all so much for your kind thoughts for Belovéd and me. If we hadn't had your supportive vibes heading through the ether for us I might have been a bit shirty about the unnecessary delays because the PA hadn't actually followed up on anything after that consult. I have to say everyone was lovely on a one to one basis so that helped enormously. Sitting in the Oncology waiting room certainly brings things into perspective. All those headscarves. I wanted to hug everyone.
(((Hugs))) Round. Take your time. You need the rest, and it's great that you're having days when you feel more energised but until you get a whole week without needing to flake out during the day you really need to be at home. Natty, have you had a covid test?

Evening all. HB I feel exhausted just reading your list. You've got a lot on your plate and your DH's and your health are the most important things here so who cares about flying? Hope things go better now you've sorted some stuff out.
Round, hope you're looking after yourself x
I haven't done much today. One washload, meals and washing up. Read the paper, Watched a bit of television, had a little walk. I did wipe down all the kitchen fronts after I did the worktops this morning but it's OK because nobody's noticed…. I think it doesn't matter whether I do anything or not except that if I let it get too bad it will be too hard to get it back to reasonable again. So I plod on. DGD2 is still unwell, DD1's dog is ill and waiting for a diagnosis. That matters more to me. I do realise plenty of people have it worse than me, I just wish sometimes it would be better.
Hope everyone is at least plodding on if not better xx

Golly HoneyBear, you've been busy. Sorry to hear about the delays etc even if it will turn out ok, it isn't nice feeling out of control when you're planning for certain events to happen and the communication breaks down.
- DW on
- lake swim
- Mr L1dl
- watering plants
- re-potting a few bits and pieces, sorted out old seed trays etc for the bin and generally hanging around as Mr N is still organising the shed and putting up racks etc but not much I can help with.
- did some drumming practice
- worked out a few things in diary. Now booked 3 nights in Norfolk for Oct.
- made strawberry shortcakes using half my precious gf flour and half ground almonds. The strawberry season seems to be lasting forever, still cheapish in Mr L and the shortcake worked ok.
- caught up with some emails and phone calls.
no more rain today but felt almost autumnal at times.
Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.
It's tough getting rid of the past but it does free up space for the future.7 -
Morning all xx
Thank you for your support and encouragement. I'm taking it one day at a time. I recently read that it can take a while for the body to adjust to the synthetic hormone so I'm inclined to think I'm not imagining the fatigue. I need to learn to trust myself. And give myself the ...what's the word? Brain fog is definitely real 🤯... benefit, that's the word, of the doubt.
I gave myself the day off yesterday- not that I do much on a day 'on', but heyho. DB popped. He's feeling much better as the new treatment for his Crohns has cleared his psoriasis. Sassy was so still DB couldn't decide if she was real or stuffed!!! Seriously. His face was a picture.
Today I plan to pootle through the Saturdailies and Sundailies. I've put out a fresh tea towel and kitchen towel.
I hope everyone has a good day

Morning all. Actually it's afternoon already.
Inspired by Narco's post the first thing I did today was making a small batch of choc chip shortbread biscuits. Apparently they are 155 calories each…eek! It's a beautiful warm summers day and I have one wash load on the line, have walked Poppet, done dailies and hoovered through.
Now sitting in my recliner in the garden about to do more proofreading of DHs book.
Spend less now, work less later.5 -
Afternoon all,
More hugs coming your way HB. A trusted paediatric consultant once told us to work out which medical professional you trust, and talk and listen to them. We still use that mantra today.I can’t remember if I posted on Friday, but I did finally pull my finger out and set to in the spare room and DD’s room. Both look much better, even though a cheeky spider had had the nerve to put another cobweb at DD’s window last night. No chance that I might have missed his antics the first time round, of course 🫣. Yesterday I thoroughly cleaned the bathroom, after having washed DD’s duvet in the bath. As she took off with my decent one and left me her’s, I felt a good wash and a long hang out in the sunshine was definitely called for. For the first time in many weeks, I have actually managed to do some flying in every room, and they look so much better for it. As Narc0 said, it’s not that the rooms are filthy but I know that if I let them go, it will take me forever to get them back to a reasonable state.
We have friends coming for dinner (or tea, depending on your whereabouts), dinner is prepped, ready to stick in the oven, dw has just run so that will be empty and ready to receive dirty plates later, the table is laid in the DRoD. Look at me being organised.See you all on the other side x

Good advice from that consultant Fayolle, so I will follow it.
Yesterday's laundry all folded up and put way, and another load through the WM and pegged out. I'm going to miss this reliable drying weather. Other than that I don't think I'll be doing a lot today after yesterday's marathon. The Room of Doom is a disaster zone but I'm working my way through the detritus one or two items at a time. It's too big to tackle in one hit - too many decisions needed.
The goldfinches were having a lovely time in one of the waterbowls this morning, some of them drinking and other frolicking about in the water, so all the effort I put into cleaning them out was totally worthwhile. All the birds are getting through a huge amount of food as well.
See you all on the other side.
