The HSBC £220 IS A SCAM
I used the link on MSE to switch from NatWest West to HSBC. After some 20 days I had heard nothing and my account had not been opened. I called them and they said they did not have my application!!! So they did it all over the phone and did the switch. Now after 60 days and no payment, I contacted them and they said I was not entitled to the £220 because they had opened the wrong account type for me. I am so angry about this. I don't believe there is £220 for anyone. There is either a glitch on the MSE link or HSBC are scammers 😡😡

It’s not a scam. As above, someone somewhere at the bank or somewhere else, including possibly you, has made a mistake.
What type of account did they open for you, and did you ask about the switch offer when you phoned? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have not could of.2 -
Says at the top of the terms that in order to qualify for the bonus you need to apply using the HSBC app.
Did you receive any acknowledgement when completing the original application?

When they opened the account for you on the phone did you specifically say you were switching to get the offer?
If you did, and they have followed the wrong process for you, then make a formal complaint to HSBC and go to FOS if you still don't get the money.
It isn't a scam though.

It isn't a scam though.It isn't a scam.
Although I note that on the main HSBC switch thread not a single person has yet to receive their bonus, HSBC state that the bonus will be paid within 60 days of the switch - reckon that's around 24 August for a switch completing at the earliest after the 15 June start date of the scheme.
OP says they contacted HSBC after 20 days and they opened the account/started the switch at that point - that means that 60 days after the switch would be well into September.

you definitely had to open the account via the app and not via the phone

£220 credited to my HSBC account today, so definitely not a scam.

None of these are scams, people just register to call them scams because they didn't meet the criteria or do the switch properly and didn't get paid
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

everything is a scam these days it seems

so the op calling it a scam is definitely a scam

Unlikely to be a "scam", however, this one, from Starling, could put the smile back on the OP's face :)
