Thanks Qriz B. One thing which is stopping me is working out what the savings may be. I currently use 35% of what I generate. My biggest issue except weekend im out of the house when I produce the most

On the 31st July I was producing between 05:00 – 20:30, a total of 6.5kWh, with the majority (70%) produced between 10:30 – 16:30 which most was being sold to the Grid at 13p. My current fix rate import is 22p.

Working out if a battery is cost effective should be relatively easy. You know the price difference between your import and export is 9p. You should know how much you are currently exporting, and therefore how much you would save if you were to store and use later, at a saving of 9p/kWh.

For example, if you had a 5kWh battery and could fill it and use later you'd save 45p/day which may save you somewhere around £100/year (your figures should be a lot more accurate), which makes a battery costing more than £1000 very hard to justify at present prices. But if solar export rates plummet as more and more people install solar, import prices are around 28p, and battery prices fall then the economics can quickly change.
